I was there for that show.. if you look very close i'm in the video.. I was serving at Camp War Egale as they got it wrong they called it camp hope.. That was proble the most motivational concert anyone on in iraq had.. And for a band like the Vandals to show up and play for us was fucking awsome..

Soldiers volunteer to serve their country. After that, they follow orders. Yes, they might not be fighting for a good reason (such as being sent into Iraq in the first place), but they serve with honor and the USO and entertainers sent by the USO (like the Vandals) are there to entertain the troops. There's nothing more to it than that.

What do you expect them to do - go over there and say to the soldiers, "What the hell are you guys doing? This is retarded and you should just stop."

I've talked to many many people in the army and navy. 90% are out of their skulls, and yes, many DO join for the mere fact that they can kill someone. I agree that you do run that risk when joining the military, and some maybe lying to themselves, but most of my friends excluding one joined the military pre-9/11 and did it to pay for school as they weren't going to get in any other way. I'll admit it is pathetic that military service was the only way for them to get into school, but we can thank politics for that. You must not have anyone you care about in the military, be thankful for that.
