PFSense won't mitigate a large DDoS attack on your home connection. Your home connection simply doesn't have enough bandwidth to stand up to it. It would be pretty easy to saturate your entire connection, at which point it doesn't matter what router you have. You can however setup PFsense to rate limit connections to port 80 per remote IP. Another option is to identify the malicious traffic and coordinate with your ISP to block it before it gets to you.

@djsnakeyes - I am on Cox cable here - typical is 30dn and 8up - latency is little higher than on a commercial T1 but in terms of bandwidth, I have more than most ... Snort gave me a pretty good report on where it came from and I have taken all prudent measures ...

Thanks for posting ..sad how far down the rabbit hole our reps have sank at the demize of the 99-or it's a staged event for O to veto ..just my 2cents remembering how O early spring turned over all our biggest ports to the UN ..looking at history one can easily see the very same step by step activities used against free peoples via ink sodden paper stealing their entire lives from birth to grave and beyond to future generations -when do we grow some gonads and yank the plug ! Its truly scary.. a indicator of how bad the situation has become in the usa.. that "they" needed to target regular citizens as "military combatant" for military detention / sentencing, so they are able to continue the "status quo" and to stay in power..
