You said something about getting spiked I know the reason for that: always put up shielding hands after you just put up protective spirit otherwise you start getting damage after a couple of seconds (3-4) so when you first lure the mobs just start with putting PS -HB and SH and after that SoA, after a little bit practice you don't even need healing prayers anymore and can go full prot wich gives you an extra slot to speed up the run, for example BuH

I used to farm Dragon Mosses before Nightfall was released and it was much better back then because loot scaling wasn't around.
