one thing i have still found not to be true about hydroponics is the claim they use less water than soil systems. i have tested this and found i always use slightly less in soil systems than hydroponic systems. those claims might be so on a commercial scale but i have found hydro always uses far more water than soil. most soil plants only need 500ml of water pr day per plant. i find with soil i waste no water as the soil soaks up everything

Very unhealthy roots, due to overwatering. Also, the nutrient solution looks like sewer water. Plant roots need room all the way around. You need to know what size the root mass will become for the plants you intend to grow.

NASA does not use this DWC technique. They use Aeroponics., which incorporatedd high pressure (>50psi) to convert the nutrient into a fog., which is sprayed periodically 24/7

roots become and help each other, much like with oaks and many other plants.  It is important to keep them trimmed up and clean as some sections will die and need to be removed, this is done during water changes...

you can germinate seeds in these without using media. You can cut a bit of nft spreader mat and place into the pots and then put seeds in. saves on buying grow sponges.

Unless your getting organic soil, they are all fortified with chemicals and these "chemicals" are nothing more than the essential nutrients the plants need to grow.

This method you control exactly how much, and exactly what nutrients your plants get.

ive done tests and it seems plants grow better with something that the roots can spread through like pebbles or soil. I have found that grow in air develop less horizontal spread than soil & pebbles or coir. This is quite a good idea but i advise anybody never to eliminate soil fron their plans entirely and this is just an added method of growing

the roots still develop better with something to anchor themselves in if you no what i mean. THE best hydro systems are the ones where the roots grow into pebbles. THe deep water cultures works ok but the roots don't become as developed as they have nothing to anchor themselves. I've done tests so i know. YOU'll find drip & flood & drain works the best for root development.

that isnt even aeroponics. Check the aeroflow-60 or 120 site gardens....they use a 600 GPH pump to force water into tiny droplets...thats aeorponics. Your patent pending junk is just phase 1 of your grow making career. Never use this system its a huge hassle. just imagine when you have a bushel of plants four feet tall and you have to change the nutrients. its a ridiculous hassle unless your syphoning the nutes out and refilling with another resevoir. i reccomend having another tank the exact size to extract and replace nutrients.

ive built my own aerogarden and was wondering if anybody had any ideas how to mount a light to the actual aerosystem just like the aerogarden lighthood. I havent been able to find anything suitable for this. IT would be really cool to use it on display rather than being stuck in a closet growing. then i can combine natural light with artificial light. HAs anybody tried making a lamp hood to fix onto the growing chamber just like the aerogarden

are these more prone to over fertilization than flood & drain systems. MY aerospring keeps producing rusty leafs whether i regardless of the cf level of my nutrients. Its annoying. Im using just ionic grow. Using paper ph test kit but isnt as precise as a digital ph meter. DO these aero systems need different nutrient strength to flood & drain.

theres a good article on dwc in the march issue of urban growe. since the plant is constantly feeding you gotta bring down the nutes to 1/2 or even 1/4 strength of what u would use in an ebb and flow

In my experience (almost 10 years) of using aeroponics, you need a fine mist to fully take advantage of aero systems which requires about 30 PSI or above to atomize the solution. These low pressure systems kill the fine root hairs which drastically reduces performance. This is obvious by how poor your roots look compared to what you'd get in a high pressure system. I don't see any advantage to this system compared to a cheaper deep water culture system.

there are still some micro organisms that hydro grown plants dont have compared to soil. SOil grow plants just always seem to have a slight different look to the stems

remember roots grow into the chamber not the pots so you can grow a plant in a small hole of only the diameter of the stem. use the smallest hole possible. In fact i am working on designing a seed germination system that elimiates the need to use rockwool, pebbles or any media at all. ANybody any ideas how i can do this without light getting into the resovoir. this wont matter for the first few days of germination though will it. i am keen on trying seed pads or nets of some kind

just germinate your seeds out of the system. put vermiculite in a small pan of some kind and flood it with 1/2 strength of w/e nute you are using and in 5-7 days the taproot should be 4-6" long

Aeroponic systems are a bad idea for a beginner. The PH fluctuates way too rapidly in these systems and can be difficult to control or may take a lot of maintenance. Opt for an ebb and flow or drip system instead.
