Well done, well done! I just stumbled on to you; I listen to Grandpa Jones doing Mountain Dew about once a week, and was tickled to just find you now and hear you doing a very good String Bean! Thanks for the fun. I would pay money to come and hear you play! You are keeping something alive that most young people today have never heard, or at least, won't ever give a chance. Thanks for being a preservationist. Are you on facebook? Dan McCartney in Toledo, Ohio.
Hey partner, when are you going to put another Stringbean video on here? Can you do "Little Liza Jane" or "Goin down this road feelin bad"? Look forward to your next post, partner. Long live "Ole Strang's" memory!
I don't know how you feel about the low-rider pants but that would make you instantly recognizable if you could make the outfit! The sound was great and the hat flip is a must as you know!
@johneastmond Thanks for the compliments. This video was made 2 years ago and I think I could do better now. I am working on getting some "low" pants like Stringbean had. This video was depicting his "Hee Haw" appearance/costume.
String would say "good job, chief...but can you read a letter from home?" You got him to a T! Excellent!!! I got to spend time with Mr. Akeman in 1969 in Nashville. He was my hero.
Really good job on this, partner. As long as their are people like you and I in this world, Stringbean and Grandpa will never be forgotten and will always be loved. No other musician, past-present or future will ever replace Stringbean or Grandpa Jones. Thanks for the post and thanks for keeping "Ole Strang's" memory alive!
It is not as hard as you think really. I spent a week working at KMW with Cathy Barton and Dave Para. By the end of the week I had it down and just kept practicing. I love and play my banjo everyday.
It looks hard, but I found that once you get down the rhythm of the frailing/clawhammer style it comes almost naturally. This video isn't my best example of clawhammer/frailing.
very good job i miss old stringbean.

I kinda like the older frail sound, especially the type of music that the style of picking gravitates to.
I still hate the universe for what happened to String...

That's cool. Maybe it's natural like strumming guitar rhythm while singing. And, it appears that you don't need any up strokes.

It's an old Sear Roebuck open-back banjo that I partially restored. It was a flea-market find.
