While a European top-player has to play in strong competitions all over the year the US players only have the World Cup all four years...

@N3WCOMB Which "different needs" could the US possibly have? Their only good opponent on a club- or national team-level is Mexico because they play in CONCACAF.
Friendlies are "okay" if you are playing on a regular basis in strong competitions against foreign countries like in the World Cup, the EURO, the UEFA Champions League or the Europe League.
While a European top-player has to play in strong competitions all over the year the US players only have the World Cup all four years...

- Spain (like all other European football-nations) don`t give a bloody thing about the Confederations Cup - Germany played it in 1999 because they wanted to win the bid for the 2006 World Cup and Spain played it in 2009 because they wanted to win the bid for the 2018 World Cup.
- For Spain it was only a tournament which would "denie" its players a well deserved holiday.
