Definitely looks more Renn. and less Medieval. The footwork tends toward linearity and the bladwork looks like sport sabre. They manage their shields well. Looks like fun, I want a try! :)
I think that because their shields are held "open" in "outside guard" they are free to make devastating cuts.
They are cutting from the wrist, as you have observed, but I don't think that would have been the case historically, if either one really wanted to end the fight fast.
They are fighting more of a rapier and buckler form which I also use. Notice they are leading with the sword-leg. They are using distance as their main defense just like in rapier. The buckler is secondary defense. The reason they can snipe from the wrist is because they are using very light short rapiers or cut/thrust swords. They would not be able to fight like this with 3 lb swords. This fencing style is effective in urban areas (towns and cities) with zero armor.
Against these type of light swords I prefer to use a dagger. It can cover a lot more area faster. However in period you might fight against rapier one day and then come up against a spear the next (from militia). I believe this the main benefit of have a Rotella (shield) vs a dagger. The buckler seems to be a more compact version for the same reason of allowing a rapier to deal with heavier swords. When two light swords face off like in the video, effectively they are fighting single rapier.
I actually use this style when fighting in the heavy SCA style. It works very well for delivering thrusts and short slashes. It also, from what I have experienced, makes whoever is using it essentially a left handed fighter, at least in regards to shield positioning and offside attacks.
