  • missed seeing cyril davies by one week at the marque in the sixties

  • great clip,top harmonica player

  • He's really great, so sad that only a few now this guy...

  • Nice to see an influential band I read about a lot as a kid but never heard/saw. He sure can play harp. Thanx for posting.

  • I've just, after a great deal of searching, replaced my copy of CYRIL DAVIES The Sound Of Cyril Davies (Pye 7" EP) and have to say, although he was a belligerent bugger, he sure could play the blues (and also steered an awful lot of today, and yesterday's, musicians down the blues (and rhythm & blues) path).

Sadly, still, missed, after all these years.

Thank you so much for uploading this vintage clip. You're a gent, guv (??????)... Thanks.

  • Sad to think how much in music is now about image. This is wonderful, gritty and exciting.

  • RIP Cyril, the man who introduced the blues to all our 60s rock heroes.

  • Brilliant! I was born 25 years too late!! (Carlo's the drummer who taught a certain oik by the name of Keith Moon to play.....)

  • Lordy!! he's like Butterfield in that the gulf that seperates a white guy from the blues simply doesn't exist. Davies swings like mad here. Baldry must have fresh out of the gate!

  • Great to see this again as it's my dad on the piano! I was shown this once and it's good to know I can see it again and again now! Thanks :o)

  • @helsybub What was your Dad's name?? (Apart from 'Dad' of course!!)

  • @Diddleywah KEITH SCOTT is my dad. He still plays but not publicly for a long time.

  • @Diddleywah KEITH SCOTT is my dad. He still plays but not publicly for a long time. Plays harmonica as well and can pick up most instruments and play. I actually got him to play in a National Trust property this year. A real treat to see other people appreciate his talent and not just his biased daughter!

Apologies is I've posted bits of this repeatedly but it doesn't look like this is posting to me!

  • Cyril Davies the Godfather of British Blues Harp playing!

  • Love the harp! :) Thank you!!

  • Backing group are the Velvettes

  • Cliff Barton (RIP) is the bass player here and Geoff Bradford is on guitar...awesome!!!

  • Carlo Little played drums in Lord Caesar Sutch & the Roman Empire from December 1966 - April 1967.

  • Also looks like Ricky Brown aka Fenson on bass - ex Lord Sutch!

  • Thanks for this! Memories of the Marquee etc around 62/63 and Cyril with Alexis and later the All Stars. A man of great talent and integrity.

  • Genius, what a loss to the world of music, if only he had lived.

  • THE pioneering UK blues band. Who the hell was doing this in 1963? Plus a girl trio? Dear Old Carlo. So nearly a permanent Stone, which would have kept him off the burger stall and the bread round.
