@BeatBay Thanks for responding. I clearly did not complete my thought. I should have said it's appeal is concocted over primarily two (2) chords, probably a f # mi7 and g# mi7 (sus 4). I recently had the great fortune of being in a jam session with one of the band members. I think I was preparing to meet him before the session and blasted through some of the vids to get familiar with the repertoire. This is a lovely piece. Always liked it.
@sistalinda wow i am so jealous!!!! you played with one of the band.thats awesome!!! oh, thank you.. i never found the right chords. i never thought that the first is a simple maj7 :)
This is one of the baddest jams of all time. And certainly one of my favorites. Kool & The Gang, masters of the music game. In a class by themselves, for various reasons. Those of them who have move on to another plane,PEACE and LOVE.
...........the Apollo Theater was where we were....long, long, long :-) time ago.....the dry ice machine was pumping, they played the intro almost 15 minutes before Brother Ricky West even began his mastery on the keyboard. I think the tickets were $10.00 for 4 acts. No drama, no drugs, no mobile phones. Just a bunch of people of goodwill observing the "era of being cool" sitting back almost being put to sleep by these 'scientist of sound, mathematically putting it down'. Respect!
We should never forget the Masters of the Art Form known as Jazz. Ma, Bessie, Jelly Roll, Pops, Smack, Lion, Duke, Ella, Fats, Bird, Diz, Eddie Jefferson, Billie, Prez, Count, Hawk, Miles, Bags, Sarah, Klook, Monk, Bu, Cleanhead, Dinah, Max, Newk, Wes, Brownie & Trane, to mention a few... We Love You!!!

Ahhhhhh .......the Jazz and original Kool and the Gang pre Disco era. They were the forefront of the Philly and Chicago sound.
Excellent group with lasting roots.
