One of Cape Cods finest, yes peopel he's an American (Cape Verdean-Portuguese American) born and raised in Cape Cod Mass.
This is NOT Leroy Gomez singing; this was his replacement, Jimmy Goings. Gomez got big-headed with the first album, bailed and quickly went into obsurity, while Goings sang on a half-dozen more Santa Esmeralda albums. Talk about a bad career move by Gomez! It is too bad Leroy Gomez quit after only one Santa Esmeralda album. "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" was a big hit album, and the best Santa Esmeralda album, with 4 great songs.
Yes I know he had some problem, we never really got into it. He was home last Summer. He lives in Paris and has a couple of things out over there. Once he wife died, he sort of reinvented himself. There was a 70's concert in Atlantic City back in 2006 Roy went along with the Tavares and a few others, it was great. I don't know why he went abroad but hey, he's family and I love him.
