all of the comments here compare James Blake's version of this song to this one. disregarding the fact that this a live bootleg and not the studio version, both versions are great , I think James Blake's version is a sort of a "remix" of the original , cause he doesn't sing the whole thing just some key elements.
but he does take the song to a very interesting and dark place , her version says in the end " because there's no limit to my love" and has more of a positive vibe to it.
Ya know, I always forget how amazing her voice is until I hear it again and then I am like... wow... Why don't I listen to her 24/7?! And y'all don't have to take anything away from Feist just because you like James Blake. He wouldn't have a song to sing if not for Feist. Just sayin.

Wow. Some of theses people are so quick to jump on james blake because he chose to HONOR her and cover her song. He has said in an interview that he is a fan of hers. He respects the original as well. His version is simply his own interpretation of the song and was never meant to compete with Feist's. They are two completely different songs that share the same lyrics. Take a step back and appreciate both for what they are before you say something ridiculous and immature.
I like both. James Blake has a good cover because it is different, he's an electronic/"dubstep" artist, Leslie is not. Feist melts my heart and then turns it into something beautiful with her smooth, unique timbre, and elegant voice. Being a male musician, and specifically as a singer, all the times I've sang this song (Feist's version) my voice sounded much closer to Blake's, which I suppose is why identify with it in a much different way then the original.
this is millions better than the james blake one, unless you actually like music that sounds like a cold lonely room? feist's ORIGINAL sounds like a freakin palace in comparison. plus, lovely voice.
it's very exceptional that a cover is better than the original! it's always exactly the same song, but the only difference is the type of voice and instruments, but the composition is mostly just the same!
They are equal. I totally respect this version - James' is all minimalism and cuts out all ray of hope - depends on your mood. They are both superb recording ARTISTS. Fighting is silly and supercilious and I'm sure they aren't.
@mike12jrw1111113: He HAS got a lot of soul. His rendering reminds me of Bill Withers' 'Ain't no sunshine.' They both have sparse instrumentation, interlaced with soulful moanings. I guess I like Feist's phrasing better. It contrasts better with the drumpart, it floats more or less freely above it, yet fits the beat. This floating and more ephemeral atmosphere is gone in Blake's version, giving it more of a 'I'm torn to shreds'-feel. I don't know what 'beotch' means.
@stefandetrez lol I was just playfully calling you a male bitch :) I'm sorry I don't think you're a beotch. And I guess I understand what you mean, James Blake's entire album has a very cold 'I'm torn to shreds'-feel so I guess that's what he was going for.
@mike12jrw1111113 Ok, you are forgiven :) Be careful not to anger people with playfully calling them names, especially if you don't use emoticons ;) Cheers!
James Blake version remind me of what Jimmy Hendrix did with All along the watchtower from Dylan. He took it and made it his own. For me that song was Hendrix and not Dylan. Blake version explored another level of emotion and colors palette with this song. Both are good but Blake version is just much more then this.
Come on people, I thought this type of bashing was restricted to death/black metal and console gaming... Both versions have their positive aspects, so at least treat them with a little respect...
@johnykoop I like both versions. I had dismissed Feist as being not my kinda thing after finding the apple song 1234 extremely irritating. But since listening to this out of interest in the James Blake version I realise I was missing out. She's actually very good.
@johnykoop that's just an absolutely irrational statement. It's a rare occasion when a cover beats an original such as SRV's Little Wing being better than Hendrix's or Oldham/Tortoise's Thunder Road being better than Springsteen's. But in those cases we're talking about masterpieces outshining masterpieces. True, this song is a masterpiece (when done by its mother as we see above); and the Blake version is "nice" but it is simply a mood piece, not a masterpiece. Nice that you like it though. :-)
What makes her great is that she is totally unique. Her delivery, intonation and phrasing is mesmerizing. She also has surrounded by musicians who accentuate that uniqueness.
Be ware!!!Fore the bravest and strongest have so gone , yet naught hath returned. the witches of the bones sooth they repose sublime in a sea without end, slave to the song of the mightiest siren all creation has ever known.

Feist's version has so much more emotion. Doesn't try so hard to be pretentious and 'differen't like JB's version.

Though this version is not bad either, you know!

I think they did a good job, but if I hadn't
heard Blake's version first, this version wouldn't
have interested me at all. He makes you listen,
because of the sparse and dangerous arrangement.
It's a must-listen. This was ok though, just ok. IMO

To all the muppets comparing Feist and Blake - Blake obviously loved the song enough to cover it. So the artists have mutual respect.
Maybe the fans should try it.
