Actually very closely resembles traditional S American "writing" still in use by reservation Indians. Often people criticize details in movies because they don't understand the historical or cultural reference being made. Such is the case w/ the hanging sticks in Blair Witch; they looked like some kind of trespassing warning to the eye that has brains. Watch Cousteau's Amazon for an example.
