Why don't people attend church?

The "idea" of Church is a really pure and beautiful concept but IMO people are just not capable of it. Clergy, live off the lay people. Parishoners provide for people who should be providing for themselves... and alot of other things.

Bottom line? it's a Corporation, you can climb the Corp church ladder, tell people what to do, feel good about themselves, and stay in that Matrix w/o a clue.

I choose to be "unplugged" from that System and worship God on my own.

It would be far more useful to make a video asking people who attend church services and are involved in church why they attend and get involved. Not one of them would say "Because church is boring, irrelevant, judgmental, restricting, and too early." Church people need to witness more and tell others what belonging to the Church means for them. Trying to make Church "relevant" is what has gotten us into this mess in the first place! We have lost our prophetic counter-cultural edge!

Ppl should go b/c they WANT to not b/c they feel they HAVE to in order to avoid an eternal life in a pit of fire. I believe in God, but I refuse to spend my Sunday mornings surrounded by hypocritical, money hungry, judgmental fakes who pretend they are the epitome of perfection. Last time I went they asked for 5 (yes 5) offerings & told us God wants us to give all we have! Are u kidding me?! I don't think God wants me to be hungry & homeless when I leave church.

I give people in the video credit for asking real questions. For me after 20 years of church involvement I've decided I'm not going to bite my tongue on apparent contradictions in the bible, nor will I subsidies a ministry team which does not endorse same-sex equality in marriage. And those stands makes me unwelcome at the vast majority of churches. So either I have to show up to church ready for a 'fight' every week, or just do something else instead. I choose to sleep in.

Todays church worships the bible, not God. They have no idea where it came from (the catholic church) they just blindly accept it as God's word. People don't attend church because they're taught absurd things there. Like that they're born bad and going to hell without intervention from invisible forces. It's all about the money, many churches will excommunicate people who don't tithe. Talking snakes, pregnant virgins, dead people coming back to life. Beware anyone or anything that tells you any philosphy is immune from critical review.

People who attend church are too afraid to use their minds. They're the ones who are afraid to question what they have been brought up to believe. How sad that modern society still seems to think those who go to church are the courages and enlightened ones when in reality it is the ones who stopped going that trully are!!

Maybe its because we no longer preach about CHRIST and we turned the house of God into "con artist market". I used to be lost before I found a decent church that PREACHED from the bible and not some "pre-package" script. I think the problem is with these televangelist with BMWs and multilevel PAID staff which is in direct conflict of what Jesus wanted. The church is a fellowship of believers, not a "business" out to make money! Money corrupted the church and it may be too late to save it.

There are so many religious con artist because religion requires you to accept things on faith from self appointed authority figures (quite like a parent child dynamic), so these con artists can slip under the radar being labelled as christian and so are considered trust worthy. The likes of Benny Hinn & Maurice Cerullo are giving christianity a bad name while they get obscenely rich.

For many years the #1 reason I did go to Church was to hang out with friends. We all got married, moved away, went new directions in our lives, then I realized I didn't even really believe what they taught, so whats the point in going?

I get the impression that those who say that they don't go to church because it is more about organized religion or is full of hypocrites are just making excuses. But at least the ones who said that it's hard for them to get up on Sunday were being honest, and not trying to blame it on anyone else. But for some it is simply a matter of not wanting to confront the reality that they are sinners in need of salvation. Not saying we give up on them, but be open to the fact they may never come.

He said that people don't want to be convicted of their sin. Well, I hate to break it to you but talk of forgiveness of sin through the death and resurrection of Christ (Which btw is the Gospel that we are called to proclaim in case you forgot) doesn't really mean much if we don't talk about sin. I am all for being welcoming and reaching out, but if we fall short of proclaiming the Gospel, then what is the point? Some people are just always going to find an excuse to reject the Gospel.

Definately a good variety of opinions in this. I don't think the "because it is on Sunday morning" reason works though, since alot of Churches seem to have meetings at other times as well.
