Most of what you hear in Spanish music is graled in Persian scales, it is not surprising that this musical merger occured after invading Moors from North Africa perged the Goths out of spain, ending four hundred years of rule, however, to there credit the Goths left behind a very comprehensive society, Roman in it's origins, the Moors brought Islamic music and customs that made Spain even more flavorful, what a world we have today, truly beautiful!
@ForeroFlower The reason why you don't see many people "recognizing" that it's simply because it's simply not true. Flamenco is hardly representative of Spanish music, being typical only of the deep south, plus it has hardly anything to do with any medieval North Africans, since it's only some 200 years old. What people think is "Moorish" influence regarding this is in reality Gypsy influence (a people of Indian origins, who up until relatively recently were Spain's largest non-native minority.)
@italobambino43 LOL! What a crock of shit. You obviously don't anything about "Spanish music". You probably have flamenco in mind when you wrote that nonsense. Flamenco is: 1- Only 200 years old, so it has nothing to do with any "Moors" from North Africa, as there weren't any left in Iberia by that time 2- Strongly influenced by Gypsies (a people of Indian origin) 3- Only "typical" of the deep south
@italobambino43 And the "Moors" did not "perge" (sic!) any Goths out of Spain. In fact, it was the other way around: the Goths and native Celt-Iberian Spaniards who refused to accept Islam gradually reconquering what was formerly Christian land and eventually throwing most Muslims out.
And even the Goths were more numerous than the "Moors", who did not even make up 5% of the population of the Iberian Peninsula (the bulk of Muslims in Spain were native converts to Islam, not foreigners.)
@italobambino43 And with a name like "italobambino43" you are very likely of Italian descent. Study the history of your ancestral land a bit more carefully before you try to talk about that of others. Roman Italy had such a considerable number of North African & Middle Eastern slaves and immigrants that they even had emperors of such descent (Septimius Severus, Julia Domna, Caracalla, Macrinus, Philip the Arab, etc.) Maybe that's what gives Italians "more flavor" than other Europeans.
