Hey I am from the Jackson Heights Poetry Festival and I really love all this content. I just saw Simon perform at the Dodge Poetry Festival this weekend and he was AMAZING!!! Writes poetry with depth and humour, doesn't think difficulty is something to be PROUD of, and, for the clincher, doesn't pronounce the very word 'poetry' as 'po-heh-tray'.
Can't say fairer than that - though I don't see how anyone who has read, say, 'Poem', Great Sporting Moments: The Treble', 'To His Lost Lover'', Killing Time or the sequence in Book of Matches could call him 'average'. I don't rate his novels, but his All Points North is a little classic.
I was at this festival and saw Simon Armitage. Talented and funny... one of my favourite poets. =)

I saw this guy and John Agard yesterday, they were amazing!! Mind blowing.. They connect to the audience so perfectly... Wow!!

Still, I don't believe that he is a genius of any kind. Although I respect your opinions. Simon Armitage is extremely average.
