  • how much more aggressive is this compared to the brunswick c system ulti max? I own a columbia freeze and the ulti max. For me they work well on dry and medium lanes, but I'm still having trouble on oily lanes and was wondering how much more difference the dv8 would make compared to the ulti max

  • i miss brian holstrom i believe thats his name yea he was the reason why i bought the virtual gravity cause that how i threw the ball lol

  • Sick, I want one but it looks just like my gravity...

  • practically bowling over handed, did you loft the ball just to show how quick it can react?

  • @ry4nsv1de0s He's probably lofting it to get over the burned up heads. Other wise that ball would probably be hooking at the arrows...

  • 38 feet?? Man, I wish! Around here we don't see anything under 41-42 feet!

  • Maybe if it wasn't such a short pattern h could actually roll it instead of loft it 15 ft I would have to do that to on a 38 ft pattern

  • @bosoxdanc1 dude u just need to practice and jeep the sane release maybe just slow ur ball down

  • @twixboy1 It's something weird with my approach. I can't keep myself from walking directly at the target.

  • Yea, I usually start off league lofting the left gutter then move left as the shot breaks down--LOL

  • I know this isn't exactly the place for asking for tips, but can anyone help me out maybe? I'm a 210 average left-handed bowler, and I can't figure out how to throw the ball right of the second arrow. If I even attempt to, I just end up with a ball that is barely spinning, and just kind of dies as it goes down the lane. If I throw a ball left of the first arrow from the left, I can get plenty of revs. I don't get it lol. Thanks.

  • @bosoxdanc1 as you move further right your ball is probably running into thicker oil, what ball are you throwing?

  • @DKATmusic I'm throwing an Ebonite NVS I've had since I was about 17, and I am now 22. I ended up throwing a 768 series last night though. I was just stroking them. Should've had the 800, but I left the 9 pin in both the 6th and the 8th frame with a ball that absolutely drilled the pocket. The reason I asked is because I'd like to be able to throw different shots than just anything left of the second arrow. Oh, and while I'm at it, is it common not to have a specific spot for a target?

  • @bosoxdanc1

Area bowling is quite common these days actually. The basic premise is, you're trying to get your ball to a specific break point, rather than roll it over a specific board. As long as you have some target on the lane that you can hit consistently, be it a board or break-point down alley, you'll have a base for making your adjustments as conditions change. I too prefer to focus on my break-point, rather than an area nearer the front of the lane.

  • @DKATmusic if I try to look at a specific spot on the lane, I always seem to end up doing something weird in my approach, although last night with my 768 series, my target was about a foot past the first arrow.

  • @bosoxdanc1 wow, great series. Well the NVS, although I've never thrown one, is designed to handle medium-heavy oil. Based on my experience it is common practice to have a specific target, a more forgiving ball may give you a couple boards, but hey I only have a couple 700 series to my name and my average is about 198 so you are better than me haha.

  • @bosoxdanc1 I'd say your problems exist with one or both of the following: Either your coming around the ball too much with your hand, which makes it very difficult for the ball to properly roll out, or that you are closing your shoulders instead of opening them up a little to aim outside. You also might be using your shoulders to gain power and jerking them closed at the last second. If you are playing in the oil on a house shot, you're costing yourself 15 pins in carry.

  • @supergnc Would you have any tips on how to open up my shoulders when I bowl? That probably sounds like a stupid question...lol.

  • @bosoxdanc1 just tried opening up the shoulders today, increased my ballspeed a shitload without even trying.

  • @bosoxdanc1 Well it's just a matter of squaring your shoulders up to the board you're aiming at. It's hard to swing the ball out if your shoulders are facing straight ahead. It's going to go where you aim. When you release the ball, try to make sure your shoulders are square to where you want the ball to go. Be sure you're walking in a straight line toward the foul line, though. Don't walk diagonally toward your target.

  • if you noticed mike kept moving left , left, left , to illustrate the recovery power of the ball ....people see what they want to see but if you pay attention you see what you're supposed to

  • What would you guys tell someone with high revs about a crash course in lofting. I find it extremely hard to do

  • @christian22137 While Mike was in college they did drills putting a towel out on the lane and they had to loft over the towel. Once the loft was in the correct area, they would put out 2 pieces of tape to use as targets. One placed near the arrows and the other down lane near the break point.

  • Why did Tony choose that layout over his normal pin down?

  • @JohnMarat Tony used this layout on the original Virtual Gravity as well as the Black Widow. We wanted to get a nice comparison to this ball as we knew it was supposed to be more aggressive than anything we had thrown before.

  • @BowlVersity Tony and Mikes layouts are pretty close to the same with the same reaction. I really wish I could have seen a pin down reaction that Tony normally throws.

  • @JohnMarat Mike actually threw Tony's in the 4th shot of his portion. You can see that the ball is much cleaner through the front part of the lane and less snap on the back end. In hindsight, Mike should have probably used that layout and Tony thrown the other. His typically pin down layout would have rolled very early on this ball.

  • damn mike's release is sick

  • What asymmetric drill layout is mike jones ball that he is throwing?

  • @domenicloprestigmail I see the layout obviously in the video, was just unsure which dv8 term it falls under, big curve, big crank, big flip or full roller curve

  • this ball is amazing simply put. The pin action that this thing makes is insane. I shot 753 with mine tonight, just got the ball punched up two weeks ago

  • I love this ball, I've been throwing this thing coast-to-coast with great pin action.

  • ok plane and simple, is this ball or just the regular hell raiser stronger?

  • i release the same way mike jone does. it works great

  • Yeah it does i bowled a tournament there for my high school team

  • right after i saw tony i thought, well if mike is in this video he might throw to much, but great job keeping it in a great spot!!:D

  • Is this video placed at amf college lanes? in overland park?

  • @lmnkid No, it was filmed at AMF Deltona Lanes in Orange City, FL.

  • @lmnkid i use to bowl there til the leagues got shitty...does it still exist?

  • @lmnkid lol

  • @lmnkid it sure looks like it. im from around that area so i see what your saying. are you around amf college lanes in overland park?

  • Just got the ball, this ball has the most ridicules amount of backed that I have ever owned. Honestly the most impressive thing is the amount of ball motion there is even when I throw it 33 or 37 boards. The ball just eats the oil up off the lane to (or what I noticed) never had anything close to it.

  • Actually, he is throwing over the ball return as there are only 39 boards on the lane. If he did not loft it over the gutter he would be setting it down around 50-55. Since there aren't that many boards, you have to loft it. That is the only way you are going to swing the ball AND play 6th arrow.

  • yea thats pretty much what i said. to avoid the front part of the lane.(so it doesnt overhook i should have said as well.) but thanks for you input! (;

  • what ball hooks more for u mike, the hell raiser revenge or the defiant?

  • @devin090891 Mike says that the Revenge is the stronger ball overall. The major difference was sustained energy and continuation through the pin deck. He covered nearly all 39 boards and it still hits like a truck.

  • this guy mike jones is a monster, has incredible power and the pins need to fear this guy

  • der ball ist einfach so herbe :D muss man haben !!!

  • Just ordered one. Cant wait to get it

  • who cares who throws the ball however the Xs that fill the frames dont show how you bowl

  • Who's Mike Jones? =P

  • who needs the first 15ft of the lane anyway?

  • @itellithowitis300 It gets pretty tough with a bad back and knee (from a car accident) to get the ball out on the lane like he does. He will actually be changing to the Sarge Easter grip for our next series of videos to bring down his rev rate and give him more control over hand position at release. He is also going to drop down to 14 to help take some pressure off his back.

  • Tony, why did you choose the drilling that you did? Ball really looked to flop on the backend. Seems the drilling you chose would be better suited for a left-handed bowler. I really wasn't impressed with the ball motion at all and I know without a doubt, the layout was the attributing factor. Just curious what your thought process was behind the layout.

  • @Tywithay Tony decided to go with this layout as it is the same he has used on the original Black Widow, and the original Virtual Gravity. This ball was definitely earlier than both of those others and really didn't allow him to get the ball outside much. Mike actually threw this ball very well as you can see by his 4th shot in the video.

  • Is this much bowling ball really necessary? My Hell Raiser is too much ball already.

  • I have 4 questions I need answered

On the market right now we have the nexus solid , the defiant, and hellraiser revnge for balls that are super aggressive.............

    1. out of those 3 which has the most overall hook??

    2. out of those 3 which has most length??

    3. which has the least length??

    4. which is the most versatile ( most useable )?? (i.e. fresh oil to breakdown, slick to dry etc..)

I am planning to make new purchases very soon so these answers will be very helpful,

  • @stelly351 Ok im no professional, but i do bowl alot and know alot about bowling balls, so here goes....

    1. Most overall hook: Probably Revenge

    2. Most Length: Defiant

    3. Least Length: Nexus Solid

    4. Most versitile: Depends on bowling style. Im a tweener and i move left when the lanes dry up or move to a less reactive ball. A good combo could be the nexus solid and the nexus pearl, so you could move from the solid to the pearl as the day goes on. Hope this helps from one bowler to another :)

  • @bahamarama22 Critical Theory!

  • @stelly351 Don't get any of them they're all assymetric they will just burn up on the front part of the lane and have no back end. Even on sport they just burn and hit weak. Assymetric is really not necessary when looking for a strong ball. Go with a high performance symmetrical with some surface.

  • @stelly351 I take it back not all assymetrics burn. Just a good number of them. The 718A doesn't burn. But those three you have there aren't any good.

  • @sushidude2012

so what do u suggest for me??? i have alot of ball speed and a decent amount of revs im more up the back of the ball than around it. i need something super strong

  • @stelly351 You could try any of the marvels from storm or maybe a reign of fire. Or maybe even a victory road solid. If all you're bowling on is house shot pretty much everything hooks a lot. If you do get an assymetric get some of the 5 series or 7 series balls from track, like a 715T or 505T. The 9 series balls are garbage though don't get them.

  • That ball looks fucking cool

  • When bowlingball(.)com says that this beast is the strongest ball on the market, damn, they don't lie! Guess that's why DV8's slogan's Damn Good Bowling!

  • Safe to say this is the strongest ball on the market.

  • @Keithfung3g wrong its still the Critical Theory

  • @UltimateWWEPro you honelsty think the a pearlized theory is stronger than the defiant. haha better check again.

  • nice tony!!!! large drilling angle, deep inside and the ball still reacts nice!!

  • mike jones 1st shot .. i thought it was gonna fall off

  • @animetrixer Believe me, so did I. They cut out just before I say WOW. This ball was a lot of fun to throw. Toward the end I was just seeing how far left I could go and I was literally throwing the ball at the right gutter knowing it would grab and come back with authority. I am going to see if I can get another one of these and put the MB to the left of my thumb just so I can throw it on a typical house shot without lofting the first 20ft.

  • its official, this ball is THE strongest ball on the market!

  • @legaless24 oh, by far! considering how many there are, anyway.

  • Mike Jones is a BEAST

  • It really doesn't matter how the person's form is as long as they RELEASE the ball the same way every time, and they are acurate at it. I mean c'mon no one has "Perfect" form. He likes to loft the ball to avoid the heads and prevent the ball from OVERHOOKING for his speed and rev rate combonation. As long as he releases it clean at the bottom and he is good at throwing it that way, then why should he change.

  • I have been waiting for a video of this ball for a few days now after I found out about it. i love the first one and will have this one in the bag when it hits the shelves.....you guys should do a video for the Ebonite Signals ball BTW

  • why is everyone hating on mike, he is alot better average wise than any of you guys. HE LOFTS TO AVOID THE FRONT PART OF THE LANE. and it doesnt really matter about his form, its a ball reaction video. i personally like the way he throws, it shows the true reaction of the ball.

  • @legaless24 yeah some of these comments are dumb. people who don't know anything about reading the lanes.

  • @legaless24 or hes lofting it becasue he wants the ball to go further down the lane. Instead of laying it down were it hooks earlier.

  • @legaless24 he throws it half way a cross the lane because the ball dosent have alot of hook

  • @ryanjosephdarby you mean because it DOES have alot of hook. it has the Highest Hook Rating out of any other ball on the market. he has to lob it so it doesnt overhook. because if he lets it down any ealrier it will be touching the lane longer causing it to hook earlier.

  • @legaless24 yea i agree with u im 14 and i throw the ball like mike and ive thrown a 279 like that so yea ur right.

  • @JoeFlorez1 It would be similar to the Big Flip layout. Mike modifies the layouts because of his extremely high rev rate.

  • @legaless24 i just think its funny they are hateing on this vid when he lofts alot worse sometimes this isnt bad at all lol

  • @402omb he lofts on purpose... why cant anyone see that..

  • @legaless24 idk man people are stupid when your that high rev. of a bowler then you somthimes have to take the heads out of the game so its easyer

  • Just woundering why Mike Jones need so much loft?

  • @rippedwarrior69 if you watch talk bowling episode 100 they say that because of his high rev rate he lofts to avoid the front part of the lane. so that was just moving in for him

  • why aren't you at your own private place this video????

  • This is all righties shooting from the left side of the lane. Do you have anything showing righties from the right? I've never seen so many videos of new equipment where people are bowling from the opposite side of their hand. Is this a relatively new thing? Or was I just coached wrong all these years?

  • @M424Filmcast This ball has been engineered to hook a lot, which is why higher rev players play it so far left. This is to generate room so that the ball can hit the pocket. If they played to the right, this ball would be in the left gutter every shot.

Curlie Becton could probably play right here because he is a low rev player.

  • @jasemook Ahh...Thanks for the explanation. I just see so many these days that bowl from the left. I've never been high rev, but I do remember the early days of reactive resin...so many people whined about "no oil"! Hahaha...As a mechanic (from age 14-25 [not a typo]), and a league and tourney bowler, I've heard it all. Thanks for so many great review vids!

  • I would have loved to seen tony drill his hellraiser stronger myself

  • I kinda hate how "not loose" Mike's swing is. It looks like he puts way too much effort in the downswing.

  • Nice job Tony.

  • These videos are better when you guys are at an actual center IMO. Also, what ever happened to Congdon?? I think that Congdon along with these two guys would be the best combination of ball reactions. Bring Congdon back, along with maybe a ball comparison feature, and these videos would be the best on the web!

  • I work at this center... Mechanic hope you guys enjoyed it!

  • Mike, if you read this, I think your equipment is still drilled waaaaay too strong. You are a rev dominant bowler with average tilt and rotation, but you are using ratios and sums for a much more matched bowler with stronger pins.

The next video you throw a high performance ball, I want to see something like 90-6.25-45 for your layout (90 drill angle, 6.25 pin to pap, 45 VAL angle). With a 135 degree sum with a 2:1 ratio with a weaker pin, you should be able to stop lofting the gutter!

  • @gamemeister27 For my personal equipment I do tend to use 90-120 for the drilling angle. I do not keep these bowling balls from the videos, but we use them in our pro shops to allow customers to get a feel for how a ball reacts before they buy it. This somewhat limits my options on drilling these. Next video I will be going first so I am not worrying about the lane getting burned up before I ever get to throw. We may even throw the ball OOB and then do a surface change.

  • @TheMikejonesbbcom Alright, that explains a whole lot. I was wondering because I know you guys are pro shop operators (or involved with that side of the industry) so I was naturally confused.

  • @gamemeister27 Originally this test was going to be on a 44ft pattern as we knew how aggressive it was supposed to be. Unfortunately that shot did not work out with the lane machine at the testing facility so we changed and threw it on the house shot we usually bowl on at another center. This layout would have been much better suited for the 44ft shot.

  • What would be a good ball to get i currently use the critical theory. What would be a good ball to buy that i will be able to use when my critical theory isnt coming back on the lane conditions?

  • @RsGuide707 it depends on what brand and what kind of reaction your looking for.

  • @Keithfung3g well im basically looking for a ball that will hook more than my critical theory. It doesnt mattter about the brand but im jsut basically looking for a back up ball when my theory isnt coming back like i want it to

  • @RsGuide707 well since that you all ready have a roto grip sounding arsenal the new defiant should work well. it has a similar but stronger reaction than the theory. and when you say your "theory" isnt coming back do you mean the original theory or your critical?

  • @Keithfung3g my critical like sometimes it gets the job done and sometimesit just decides not to comeback

  • @RsGuide707 The Critical Theory reacts more on axis instead of rev rate. So probably your axis of rotation were different between shots

  • @RsGuide707 another ball to check out is the storm vivid thats coming out soon. it supposed to be stronger than the nano, so if you're looking for an aggressive ball that can cover alot of boards look into that.

  • Why the different lanes?

  • @lsapg09 Both Tony and Mike live near this center and wanted to test the ball on different surface. This is where some of the early reaction videos were shot in Deltona, FL.

  • Let me be the first to say that this ball has the capability to hook out of the building. If you need something for extremely wet conditions, then this is your ball. Mike is using a 6" pin to pap distance and the ball is still hooking this much!!!

  • wow. alot of loft!!

  • @fenix45133 his loft is to delay hook those lanes were dry. crankers do that.
