@groupexman It's hardly meant to be high art though is it? There is a lot of irony and artifice in the whole performance and lyrics, probably why it passed the Americans by. Many "non traditional" singers exist in all genres (Tom Waits, John Lydon, Grace Jones, Russell Mael). Not sure about Lady Gaga, but Madonna has obviously learned a trick or two as has Alison Goldfrapp. For what it is, it's not a bad tune at all and that louche synth disco sound is still popular.
