He was reunited with her at a point but she died, if I remember correctly.

If you watch the anime his little sis made him a contractor when she disappeared during the war, he became a contractor because his sis was always with him. At the end in hells gate she appears and tells him that (or he realises anyways) after that she goes for good and he loses his powers, you should watch it and watch the 2nd series its too good not too.
