Awesome version of an awesome standard. Such vibrant tone and phrasing, and that goes for the keyboardist as well! But Maiko's violin work is, well...words can't adequately express what the ears already know!... Peace!
I'm a professional violinst in the US - trained classically, but I became very versatile, and I also do lots of the strolling and improvisational stuff. I love your violin playing!!! Obviously, you have been very well trained. You have a great technique! You get such a gorgeous sound out of your violin!!! And I love the way that you play and interpret Emily! Keep up the wonderful work! I think you're great!!!
Hi Carolyn. I'd have to agree -- it's very well arranged, and Maiko's tone is crystal clear, with nice riffs. Question for you from a non-violinist: Is this a special violin that Maiko is using? It seems like she's playing in a lower register than I'm used to hearing from a violin.
Clapady, No, it does not appear to be a special violin. Yes, she is playing mostly in the lower registers. She does goes on the E string, but most of her playing is confirned to the lower strings, G, D & A. She plays beautifully. The sound is warm & very rich, & I love her vibrato. "Emily" is one of my favorite songs & also a part of my strolling repertoire. Carolyn
Except that the best Evans tracks I've heard of Emily are marred by terrible audio transcription. There is a well-engineered recording of a live session at the Village Vanguard. Only problem is that the piano there was out of tune! If you know of a good rendition that was not speeded up, has great piano riffs, along with minimum bass solo time (lol) , and that was well recorded, let me know, so I can pick it up.
Beautiful musical performance of a beautiful
song. Leo g.

Is this group Japanese-based or Canadian-based? Where can I get concert/tour info? Googled them, but got nowhere. Thanks for any info.
