The great thing about comparing baritones is that they do not suffer from the acoustic process. I slightly prefer Amato, but they are both major artists.
It would be interesting to hear Amato if he had been recorded with modern equipment and techniques, and a slower tempo, because there are some spots which would benefit from a slower tempo, but again, I find some parts which sound as though they could have stood to be faster.
next to Tito Gobbi, I think amato comes a close second. Titta Ruffo a close third! I think Amato must have been fabulous on stage-you can hear his voice with drama and nuances. These historic recordings, are fanatstic. Thanks for posting this.
