We can just say they're high risk, so if we make them pay twice as much for something, then we almost guarantee failure, and make more money in less time. Meanwhile, we'll give rich people discounts and higher interest on their money

@frankvonfrauner You're smarter and more educated than most, but I tend to lean towards thinking we need to wipe out pay entirely for sub management positions of employment and also (goes without saying) wipe out all forms of welfare too immediately. Incentive to invest more time and free work into existing corporate structures by the poor needs to be increased to strengthen pillars of our economy. When employers don't have to pay anything, there are jobs for everyone.

You should call to respond to southwest and offer them the exact opposite. Tell them they have to pay your plane ticket, lodging and for the show. Then tell them you wont actually be performing, but it'll be good publicity for the airline to tell people you'll be there. How awesome a video would that be??

In Canada we have North By NorthWest or North by NorthEast or someshit like that, and its the same thing, you pay sonicbids to hopefully be accepted, then you find your own travel, lodging and play for free under the guise of "oh its for free exposure!" well no, the internet is FREE exposure, live shows are a big deal. As a musician we are told that "The money is in the shows" these days, so why the conflicting ideas here? Its almost a weird loophole to screw the arts community over.

I love you Duncan and understand why you said no. But that's kind of how SXSW works. I don't think you would have went to all this trouble if you weren't offended at their "offer" but yea.... SXSW doesn't make a ton of money. It's for people get discovered and get more attention. It's not for artists to make money. It's so they can have the exposure and hopefully, make more money down the road.
