  • Isn't the 68% supposed to be in between the 12 and 16?

  • No, the rule of thumb (or empirical rules) says 68% of the data from a normal distribution should lie within 1 standard deviation of the mean. For mean = 14 and s = 4, that means between 10 and 18.
