I think Jameka and Carol's suppressed uncertainty gives them serious anxiety, which doesn't allow them to properly engage in a thoughtful discourse with a healthy skeptic like Dick. The fact that they interpreted Dick's harmless questioning as a personal attack says a lot about their lack of security with their beliefs. His curiosity seemed threatening to them. Carol tuned out immediately due apparent ignorance. However, I thought Jameka could've made the discussion more interesting than it was.
