@shamsmi Bhagyashree's voice is so pathetic, ,best suited for teen age romance , can't match the iconic Madhuri , Madhuri 's dance sequence in didi tera devar and maaye ni maaye was outstanding.

Bhagyashree was a very bad dancer just note her awkwardness in dil deewana(male) mpk .Moreover God always give chance to flourish , you have to identify the moment , had she not quit or vowed to work with her husband ,perhaps she would be sooraj's first choice.

Madhuri got all the credit for the film, old yougn men women all were mad about her. she won multiple awards filmfare screen etc. you should check magazines of those days to see how big madhuri was then, she was bigger than her heroes.

Yes, she was the biggest actress at the time and is why she was chosen after Sooraj couldn't get Bhagyashree to agree to the role. HAHK would have been a big hit with or without Salman/Madhuri. I'm just contemplating whether Salman-Madhuri chemistry was better or Salman-Bhagyashree!

Well that is your opinion, but it is known fact that people went to see the film only for Madhuri. I am not giving my opinion, I am saying what was found to be the fact at that time, from the report of media, trade analysts etc. Madhuri mania brought people in the theatre. If you think the film would be any kind of near hit without Madhuri then that would be a mere opinion not supported by any factual basis.

@bongofight Absolutely disagree. Not to disregard Madhuri's contribution to the film, she was phenomenal and definitely added to the hype. But lets not undermine people like Salman and Sooraj too. You have to remember that Salman-Sooraj combo had an All Time Blockbuster together, Maine Pyaar Kiya. And I'm sure a lot of people came to the cinema to watch Prem, and to watch Sooraj's direction too other than Madhuri. After all, HAHK is Mad's first ATBB, while it's Salman and Sooraj's second.

I am saying what was the trade analysts report and general media reaction after the release of the film. When I said people went to watch Madhuri I meant the star power and her magic. Magazines made articles like "Madhuri tera viewer's dewana". I did not mean Salman was not good but the main attraction was Madhuri. I am saying based on facts at that time. Madhuri was the biggest star back then. But of course Salman was perfect and my comment was not to undermine him or sooraj.

I'm also a guy....but the film made me uncomfortable because it put forward the same old concept that the consent of the Woman is unnecessary when it comes to mariage....and though I understand the logic behind the sister swapping theme ( which is meant to be for the betterment of the child) I still can't condone it because the freedom to choose one's future spouse is one of the fundamental rights we have...

@victeepoo In a "glamorous setting" the film just condoned the harsh reality that many women who end up in Dixit's character's situation have in fact no choice but to follow rules and traditions and forgo their freedom of choice

Throughout the film she is coaxed into accepting the mariage (of course no violence is involved, but it still is psychological pressure ) and made to feel guilty were she to refuse the wedding and the family is never criticised for that as if it's a "normal" thing to do
