for some years now i learn some other stuff from other maratial arts and i even try yoga and kinds to improve flexibility, and nothing compare to your videos here!
Thanks for this, this is exactly my problem, legs moving forward during a side split. Also, when I try doing a front split my leg in front is completely flat but I have trouble getting my rear leg down because my knees is in my way. How do I get my rear knee out of the way and comfortable so I can complete the split? Thanks
Help, my hamstrings are so tight, I just dont know what to do anymore. I also have some odd hips, ie if I sit down with my legs spread out infront of me, the further apart I go with them, I full backwards, and cannot sit up. HELPPPP
I succeeded at the front splits to right and left side, but i failed at side splits ...i tried almost everything , isometrics , the pain method ( like old-school gymnasts), and still far away from side split ....when i warm up i takes about 1 hour of stretching to achieve 160 degrees -.- i am desperate i really want a full side split , but i dont have money to buy guides ...and i have no bone issues ....its just my big failure a kind of curse -.-
Hi Paul, starvmarv has a good question, can everybody do a split using your method. I'm real close I can get within 2-3 inches in a split and I'm going to be 50 in a month. Thanks.
There is a very small percentage of the population that have structural issues that can prevent a full split. There is a very large percentage, who use it as an excuse for failure to achieve it.
Thank you for your response, do you think it is possible I could do a full split using your method, I'm 50 and about 2-3 inches from doing a full split now.
is there any way to find out if I have this structural ssues? because everytime i strech for sidesplit, to some point I feel just pain in the tendons (which i can endure, that is how strething work, I suppose), but after this point an intense pain in joints appears. I do not know if it is normal for everybody and I should ignore it, or is it caused by issues you mantioned.
Maybe you right, but still, I have no idea how to warm up joints to work at angles that are above their reach. If you, or similar topic YT uploaders have some videos about this, I'd appreciate a link or clues what to look for.
stretching shouldnt hurt, ppl are not patient and wanna become flexible early on but flexibility is something that comes overtime. sense of uncomfort is what u should feel not pain.
Thanks, i know what you mean. The strange thing is, at point when my tendons are "uncomfort", my joints pains, and I must stop, despite my tendons would allow me to go further in stretch. I guess I will have to look for some excersises widening the reach of joints.
im not as flexible as u r Paul but i noticed that horse stance helps me with my split(cant open 180 yet but im close) after i hold horse stance for a minute or 2 its much easier to open ma legs.
Does the horse stance increase running speed & jumping ability ?

Short answer:
Warm up and stretch your legs and hips at least every other day

More often then not, when the joint pain appears toward deeper ranges, you are lacking muscle strength and correct warm up.

So we need to be working on the strength of the adductors if we want to achieve the big 180?

is it possible for everybody to do the splits? tom kurz's says no, but i don't know...

Very small percentage of the pupulation have structural issues, that can prevent them.

is there a way to test to see if i can do the side splits? tom kurz's method is complicated.
StarvMarv 2 years ago
There is a test, StarvMarv......
Make sure you are training correctly and keep at it.
Time will tell.
Elasticsteel 2 years ago
do you know the test i can do to see if i will eventually do the side splits?
