I used to watch this show as a little boy in Cleveland, O in the 70's. I always looked forward to seeing it for some reason. I believe it came on channel 42: "channel 42 plays favorites".
It's a great shot and a properly tragic one, the loser guy trudging/stomping down the street with his ripped-out accordion half... ah, you had to grow up on Polka Varieties to understand.
As an accordion player who is currently working on an arrangement for two or more accordions (preferably minimum of 2 in the lead) I found this to be hilarious!!! At first wondering why an accomplished player would be using such an old,
tiny instrument, when he pulled it apart I burst out laughing - this was very well done!!!!! Great stuff!!!!
in western ohio the only cleveland tv station we got was channel 43. maybe hoolihan and big chuck was relayed in some way or different tapes were shown other than what was being shown in cleveland at the same time. anyone know?
I use the classic Polka theme and laugh as my ring tone on my phone! I miss our old neighborhood. Thanks for signing my copy of your book Big Chuck! Polska! Derek Deptowicz from Hosmer Ave., Slavic Village
Love it. I'm 53, my brother and I would watch on Friday nights, drink RC cola and eat chips!! Good ol' days!! We lived on W 67th street, went to Watterson Elementary. What a blast!
yeah...you're right. The first shot is on the corner of Fleet and Klonowski. I might be wrong, but it looks like the "Jolly Tee Cafe" was on the corner of Aetna and E 76th street. Check it out on google maps. Of course it all looks a lot different now...vacant lots...missing trees, etc. How times change.
txccd I'm with you man, I'm about the same age my brother is two years younger. umm popcorn made in a kettle with butter.

Yeah, but Superhost was a Cleveland memory too. Miss him doing the winter weather reports, it is just too hot down in Georgia.

Man, I had forgotten all about this one. What was the name of that street? Kolonowski? Wow, is this in Parma?

Klonowski - I think it's off of Fleet Ave. in Slavic Village in Cleveland.
