Such a nice voice! I've found a couple of 74-B mics for right around $400 each, and your wonderful singing is making me want to purchase one. I'm not sure if it's the classic mic or your voice that sounds so rich and smooth. Well done.

@TheSunnyJim Thank you very much for your kind words. There are far better mic's to be had than the RCA 74b. But with a little eq-ing they do have a warm sound. If you are shopping for one be careful of "bargin" 74b's. Usually they will need a new ribbon and possibly other work to be functional. But you may get lucky also. I just like vintage mic's. Sir, this is wonderful! Could I trouble you to let us know your signal chain? What do you run your RCA mic into to get such a rich, classic sound?

@timwarneka Thank you very much Tim. I am currently connecting my RCA 74b microphone to a Focusrite ISA one preamp. That is connected to a ten year old Mackie 1202 VLZ Pro mixer. I have a very inexpensive effects device as well as an inexpensive compressor also connected to the mixer. I then record the audio output of the mixer along with the video output of a Sony camcorder to a stand alone DVD recorder. I would like to go all digital but the budget dosen't allow for it any time soon.

@terrisonb - Sir, thanks for your response. I'm a fan of the ISA one, too. I've never tried the RCA 74b, but you've absolutely sold me on it. You've got a marvelous voice. Respectfully, if you covered more mainstream standards (a la Tony Bennet and Michael Buble), you'd make serious bank on Amazon and iTunes- at least enough to buy an all digital recording pathway. Do you have a CD available?

@timwarneka The legalities of the music business today are such that it is nearly impossible to record and sell cover songs without spending a fortune. It would help somewhat if I could play my own music rather than using prerecorded tracks but I can't. I have only made a few amature cd's to give to family and friends in the past. In fact I expect that one day my youtube page may be shut down due to these legalities. But for now I will just keep having fun and hope that someone likes what I do.

@stevemularz Hi Steve. Thank you very much. The microphone that I am using here is a 1947 year model RCA74B ribbon mic. You can find them on ebay once in a while. There are better vintage RCA mics available but they usually cost two to three times more than this one does. These range from about $500 to $900 depending on the condition and where they came from. I bought mine from the music producer Brian Ahern. He used this mic on an Emmylou Harris album to record mandolyns.

@pastore0506 Hi George. Winter in Houston just means a bit of relief from the summer heat. Winter here is usually about 8 to 10 weeks long and in the 34 years I have been here it has snowed 3 times. Just a dusting and was gone by noon of the next day. Some of the worst drivers in the country live here. If it ever REALLY snows here there will be complete chaos. I know that winter in the UK is a lot more intense than our mild gulf coast winters.

@terrisonb: At one time or another; I think I have heard every song Jim Reeves ever recorded. I can not think of ONE song Jim recorded that I personally did not like. Even today (Nov. 6, 2011), approximately 47 years after Jim's passing; I am still totally mesmerized by Jim's voice when I hear one of his recordings.
