Thanks for posting this! I remember Rex the Wonder Dog reading the news quite well! Right after the replay of the Braves losing. :-). Ah those Atlanta 70s summers.
I remember the funeral for the pot smoking rat. And another show (on april 1st), when he announced that pot was legal and everyone would get a $300 bonus on their tax refunds that year. Hilarious stuff.
WTCG- Watch This Channel Grow. TBS- Ted's Broadcast Station TNT- Ted's New Toy Local Atlanta vernacular at the time for these stations, EXCEPT for WTCG. Watch This Channel Grow. That is what was promoted those many years ago.
I remember watching TBS before Ted Turner owned it, back when the station ID went "Super Seventeeeeeeeeeeen!" and showed old cartoons mostly. I remember Tush's first late night talk show called "Open Up" back in '74. The first time I ever heard of a transexual was when he had one on that show. Then there were the great old Ronco commercials, like that newspaper grill, & the Popiel Pocket Fisherman! I used to get toasted and stay up late to watch the "Late Update" in '79 and laugh my ass off!
@Yeabuddy1 Channel 17 in Atlanta was around before Ted bought it. The call letters were WJRJ. He changed it to WTCG (which I guess was Turner Broadcasting Group), which was later changed to WTBS.
I thought he left in the '90s. TBS didn't use him as much later on, but he was all over the station in the '80s. He was funny on his own show, Tush. He should have done some comedy movies while he was on a roll. But maybe he wanted to stay in the Atlanta market, not move to LA or Hollywood.

I wish Jan Hooks hadn't disappeared. Last time I saw her was in 'Jiminy Glick Goes to La-La Wood.'

I love Bill's stuff. Tina Seldin was no slouch, either! I regret I never saw much of his "Showbiz Today" work.
