I didn't come hear to watch this. I had to endure it during my history class and i didn't like it at all. I can hear to say i don't want to torture my girl by binding her feet, making her endure all this pain. I think she can be beautiful with out breaking her feet. I'm not saying boob implants and all those things are good but this is just completely horrible.

I don't think people should just say that this is ugly in any way because it's something that's beautiful to them. It's a cultural thing and sometimes what the girls do here may seem equally weird as this. Yes, the process may be painful and may not be worth doing this but it's still a cultural beauty. The girls here also make a lot of sacrifices to their bodies to become beautiful...

My cousin broke his arm & I had to change the bandages & let me tell it it stunk with all that sweat bandaged up unable to be aired out. This was the arm not feet. Feet are known for stinking, arms are not. I bet these feet bandages weren`t changed too often but I changed my cousin`s bandages every day & they stunk. I can only imagine the smell of dead sweaty, tightly bound feet that are rarely washed! GROSS!

It's not like European culture doesn't have stuff like this too. Think about corsetts. They're used to make your waistline inhumanly small. They usually moved whatever that was inside the stomach away from the waist line, including intestines and stuff. It was a painful, uncomfortable process that was unnecesary. the origin is still uncertain, there are many legends about it. however foot binding IS extremely painful. and what's the the worst is that men would not want to see the foot naked. the killed the whole "illusion". girls had to hide it .

yeah, i found that statement shocking too. That is not true. The odor was mostly caused by bacteria and fungi that hid in the folds of the bound feet and were IMPOSSIBLE to wash off. Also, infections that could led to gangrene caused the foul odor. This means that THE SKIN, mostly on the toes, necrotized (died). And yes, many died of septicemia.

Actually it was because a dancer/concubine for the king bound up her feet so that she could dance on her toes. All the ladies of the court saw this and liked how graceful she looked - including the king. So they mimicked her, not knowing that the terrible and painful process would last for centuries.

The chinese did this to themselves back then because someone (I think it was a princess or something along those lines) in high power, was born with deformed feet, so her father told the people it was beautiful to have small feet, to save his daughter from future embarrasment.

I disagree on the "foot dying" part. That doesn't make sense. The smell was derived from bacterial and fungal colonies the grew in the unwashable folds of the foot. Good video otherwise ;)
