Thanks for posting. I had this '12 back then. Seeing Joann Catherall in a wedding dress in the video for "Love Action" broke my heart....then I fell for Suzanne a few months later hehe..
Put this on at any party and it's guaranteed to get people dancing or reflecting back to the 80?s, the fade into love action is immense......worth the wait, nearly 10mins of perfection...
Hard Times? WOW-gets in your head & stays there a while but that's OK b/c THL are awesome, clever & unique, can't mistake their work for anyone else's. Good to hear again, when a lot of us on this side of the pond are REALLY having "Hard Times", at least this makes a little fun out of the matter.
i remember getting this album from a revolver (R.I.P) store when i used to buy 12" singles from either Human League or Duran Duran in the early 80's i got the black album later for other songs and guess what
I STILL HAVE THEM ALL
i used to get £2 a week from my mother and then beg for 20p for my bus fare into town (10p each way as i used to go for kids prices lol) go to revolver get my 12" then run home and spend the rest of the saturday playing them
an excellent example of some of the best electronica dance tracks from H.L.!!! very good orginal transition from "hard times " to "love action" Both of these tracks were totally underplayed in the United States.
Seattle's Sheikh Idriss Mosque, the first mosque in Seattle to be built as a mosque, and the first west of the Mississipi River to be of a Muslim archtecture design, was opened in 1981, the year this song came out and music like it topped the charts.
martin rushent may of been a bit of a beardy weardy, but he produced the very best stuff for them at this point-shame they did not play this last month as it is very apt now as it was back in 81!
It makes me wonder if the Human League were the first artists to fade one track into the next, as they have done here....you hear it all the time now in the clubs and on Ibiza?Ministry of Sound/Creamfields CD's and stuff like that but you didn't hear it done in the early 80s...or at least I think you didn't!
Whatever, it's a brilliant song, Hard Times is so addictive!
Ah, memories..at the time my brother & I shared a joke, that whenever "Hard Times" was played, we'd say "I know all the words to this", & see who could say it first...lol
btw, ever heard anything by "The Men"? it was a pre-League band with Phil on vocals, only released one album, a friend had it, & it was pretty good from what I remember
great times , still got all the vinyl , all the albums and every 12" from the eighties even being boiled and dignity of labour , brilliant tunes & times.
I had a different 12" of this. At the end of one of the four-bars ending diddle-diddle-diddle-diddle dee - dee dee, there was kind of a syncopated scratch mix whaddup whaddup whaddup, before the next four bars of diddle diddle etc. The vinyl got beaten up so I don't have it now. Pity.

mitchtay99: Peace and respect to you and your Muslim brethren/sisthren. And thank you for sharing such a beautiful bit of history.
Other things happened in 1981, albeit a bit more secular:
"Let's Groove Tonight"
"Hey Nineteen"
"De Do Do Do"
"Fantastic Voyage"
"Urgent"
Human League entered this environment, making their own mark.

Who the heck was martin Rushent? Aside from a freaking excellent producer, obviously/
human League was pretty cool but a little to insular, perhaps.
Oakey could have kicked ass. instead they just kicked butt. Not bad, but the potential was there to do more. What happened?
