Oh...and this IS NOT a saltwater crocodile...this is Crocodylus acutus (American crocodile.) They do indeed swim in saltwater...but they should not be confused with the species that is actually called the saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) of Australia & Asia which is FAR more dangerous.
this is illegal and these guys will be arrested if caught. I have worked with crocodile specialists on Ambergris Caye and this is an extreme problem...these men should be ashamed of themselves.
Yes there are saltwater crocodiles in Belize. They are called 'American Crocodiles' and can reach 20ft in length. There are roughly 1,000 in south Florida, predominantly in the Florida Bay between the Keys and the Florida Mainland. They also share space with the American Alligator in the Everglads. Their range extends throughout Central America on both coasts and the northern part of South America.
This isn't a Salt water crocodile, they only live in Australia and papua new guinea and surrounding areas. This is probably an American crocodile or a Morelet's crocodile.
The American crocodile is a saltwater crocodile. They are found both on the Caribbean sides and the Pacific side of Central America, the Florida Keys and South America.
In remember seeing two large crocs in El Salvador back in the early nineties I think they were american crocs. I haven't seen any since them, sadly there probably aren't any crocs left in my country. That pisses me off.
