3rd postion would definitely be the default option in this. Since I overblow, and since I'm much more fluent in 2nd position, I found it easier this way. But you've got to hold down those pesky little thirds: avoid the 7 draw, the uninflected 3 draw, etc.

Is that because you can't get away with those notes if a tune's minor, but you can when it's major?
