  • I only wish that there wasn't so much profanity in this play...

  • I commend this actor for taking on the part. Dr. Magy, I have no doubt that your production of The Laramie Project was very moving. To those who say that this piece was not emotional enough, let me ask you this: Have you ever seen a court statement? Many, many times it seems very unemotional. Dennis Shepard likely just tried to get through it, and you know what? He DID have a sheet with everything he wrote on it. He needed something to stick to. There were probably a lot of things he'd have

  • This is a very, very, hard piece to do, and I give credit to any actor who tries to replicate the pain and sadness of it.

However, I do agree with those who say this particular performance could have been much better.

Kudos to the guy for giving it a shot.

  • While this is an incredible piece, I have to agree this particular actor does not do a very good job expressing the tremendous hurt that it was written out of.

  • 1- I am not the actor, I am his teacher

2- You have a right to your opinion of any performance but why do you feel compelled to post such a negative comment? Actors interpret scenes. They use themselves to create the character. I believe this was a true and sincere performance. What do you gain by criticizing it?

3- You are seeing a scene out of context. Plays work by the accumulation of texts and images in the audience's mind. This is a sample but not the play.

Good luck, and be an artist

  • I am an actor who is in a production of The Laramie Project at my high school.

We've performed it several times now, and gotten multiple awards for said performances.

That being said, this particular actor's rendition of Dennis Shepard's statement was awful. He had no emotion whatsoever. He wasn't sad, he wasn't angry, he just was. He moved his hands all of once. All he did was read the words.

I read that you made people cry when they saw this. I am entirely baffled as to how.

  • Who are you? Why would you feel your comment is required or appropriate? You did not see the production. You saw a video out of context. If you act, you should gain some humility. If you don't, what risks are you taking? Shame.

  • We did a performance of The Laramie Project at our school a year and a half ago. It was the most amazing experience I ever had doing a show in the theatre. I was the only participant who is gay and out, so I held it very close to my heart.

Crying eyes and support was all we recieved, and, well, that alone proves how far we've come as a society. There is still ignorance and hate, but we're all moving forward to equality.

  • howd you guys get a scrip to do that, im pretty sure we could do this at our school for our spring play and it would be great cuz we got a lot of haters at our school get back at me if you know where!

  • 5:00-end you can hear a lot of sniffling and stuff. niiccccee. i did this piece for a declamation contest at my school.

is it bad that it feels good to make people cry? :P

amazing piece. amazing play. amazing story. terrible, yes, but amazing. :[
