BC Place Stadium is ruining all of its own glory by harassing local residents with non-stop Budweiser and Pepsi ads on oversized outdoor giant screens erected at point blank-range from hundreds of glass residential condos. Check it out on 'Take the Giant Screen Down Now'

People can bitch and moan all they want, the Stadium is now world class. Because of it I have bought Lions seasons tickets, and guess where all that money goes? Right back into Vancouver and all the restaurants and pubs that Ill be going to on game day. BTW I live in Cloverdale, so that's where my tax dollars would normally go.
I think this is well done by the people of BC. Congrats on a spiffed up BC Place. There will be haters, and so they speak here as well. By the way the Olympic Opening there was perfection. I enjoyed every second of it.
@reszikora The olympic opening was perfection except the one ridiculous and embarrassing malfunction. Spend so much money and we still can't get it right.
Let us all watch in ten years when this roof fails and has to be replaced. It only has a one year warranty after all.
@KronicCanuck69 Actually, that is incorrect. BC Place is a massive money-losing proposition, has never made money, and in addition the taxpayer is effectively subsidizing both the Lions and Whitecaps whether we like it or not. When you add the roof boondoggle on top of that, this is costing us big-time. You want "entertainment" that brings in money, arts & culture bring in far more money for Vancouver - ratio is 5-1 against sports - and are undersubsidized.
@theNolte Can't attach links on Youtube but the sources are Statscan and Hill Strategies figures. And I have actually just found out that the difference between sports tourism and cultural tourism is actually 1 to 9, respectively, not 1 - 5. If you go to the Vancouver Not Vegas coalition website (can't post links here, just google it). As for the point about these teams losing money and receiving many diff types of subsidies from municipal and provincial gov'ts, that's a matter of public record
Garish, hideous, dated, Disneyland. Not exactly "world class." A totally embarrassment, and that's not to mention the absolutely corrupt backroom deal between the casino company, Paragon and Pavco/BC LotteryCorp for that roof, that we're going to be stuck with. $563 million at least. cf. Arizona, where they just built an architect-designed stadium from scratch, with a truly retractable roof (not this lame skylight), for $440m. A corrupt BC Liberal boondoggle, pure and simple, a la BC Rail.
@lidsvillebrown It was built in 20 months, the Arizona stadium was built in 5 years. Plus the saving on disposing of thousands of tons of concrete, plus the gas and oil needed to transport fresh concrete in etc.
@rlestage I'm not a hippie. I just have a brain that works and can make my own conclusions. Whereas it seems you only think "Government says good. Stadium is good."
Do you give these derelict people money or dedicate your time to helping them? Shut the fuck up and enjoy the light show. Our money gets put into this entertainment so we can earn more money in the community to pay for thier injection sites and welfare cheques so they can buy booze and get thier free herion. But the light show was pretty cool. :)
@KronicCanuck69 You are delusional. I hope you are happy to have (most likely) your property taxes hiked in order to essentially pay for this stadium renovation.
By the way, it is ugly as all hell. So "Vancouver." Like the Olympic torch malfunction. Tries too hard to be hip or neat but falls flat and is ridiculously gaudy.

What a waste of taxpayer money. Three blocks away from this monstrosity are thousands of derelict people who are dying every day because the government chose to spend over half a BILLION dollars on renovations to a stadium (right next to another stadium) instead of on important social deficiencies.
Over half a billion dollars on a stadium renovation, right as they are trying to figure out a way to raise your taxes to fund the EVERGREEN LINE. The Evergreen Line is estimated at $400 Million.
@therealvancity So you want to keep the poor neck high in heroin and crack? that is a good idea ?I'd rather pay for something for ALL OF US!! Not the lazy crackheads, who should be in jail.
@2010peters No. I want the zombies on the DTES off the streets and working and contributing to society. I am personally not against helping pay for mandatory rehab for any addicted and homeless people.
Also, all of us are going to enjoy this stadium? Speak for yourself. First, the BC lions suck. Second, there are barely any scheduled events there. So we can "all" enjoy it maybe once per year if we are lucky.
What about the millions of BC taxpayers who don't live here? They payed for it too.
It`s none of your business what other people do with their lives. If they want to be `zombies` as you put it, so what? Not your business and NOTHING TO DO WITH THE STADIUM, jackass. And why would anyone give qa fuck what you say when it`s all proven wrong? Lions `suck` ? they just won their SIXTH grey cup and second at home. IDIOT
