Sorry for like really really late response. You're able to play at least 20 degrees from parallel to the ground, it doesn't affect the tone at all really. The only time you need to play parallel is in Marching band.

Heh! That's not hard. Think of playing a flute the same way as typing on a keyboard. The keys are always there, you just gotta hit different ones to get the letters/notes out.

I am so upset at the audience...you can't clap to "My Heart Will Go On", let alone their rudeness level.
