I've learned that amidst the darkest times of depression or any other type of sadness, there is always a ray of light. When a person goes through something bad they choose to either learn from it and come out stronger, or learn from it and come out weaker, and more negative. We could sit here and debate but at the end of the day every single person wants to feel happy. When it comes to it every single person wants to feel joy and warmth. This is universal.
you have to look on other people's perspective. others don't see things as
Mormons do. some people can be negative all the time, and i don't think thats their fault.
i honestly think that by trying your best, it doesn't matter if you have made wrong decisions in your life, those decisions will make you much stronger as a person compared with some one that has little experience of life. negative and positve go hand in hand.
Hope some day you may feel love in your heart. What a waste of time producing such a bunch of lies. And I can't WAIT for you to have to look into Pres.Hinckley's eyes and tell him you made this stupid and untrue video. Well, you may know that I love you. I just thing you are a little bit lost.
I agree with you techdeck! Jesus taught us to love one another and not to judge! We are also to live by examples and teach our children the right ways to walk not being prejudiced against others and wanting to fight others because of their beliefs and what they do!
Mormons believe in mariage between a man and many women. One of our widowed ward members married and sealed for eternity his second wife....expecting to have two so far in the next life.
And mormon men can't perform the miracle of bringing beautiful children into their family. Oh my what is to be done. Plural marriage was not invented by mormons nor is it presently practiced. They certainly aren't the only people to have married more than one wife throughout their life.
Polygamy isn't practiced anymore? Not on earth, but in heaven it will be practiced, men can have another sealing to another wife, if his wife dies. He keeps both of them in the after life. Who invented plural marriage? I'm not critisizing the LDS or FLDS... if you think polygamy is/was an ordinance from God, I respect your beliefs.
umm... okay... but Mormon women do have plenty of privilages. More then people think they do. Mormons don't believe in having many wives anymore, those are the FLDS, not the LDS. There's a difference.
Of course Mormon women have a lot of privileges, no one was saying they don't. However, When a wife dies, the man can get sealed to more than one woman, meaning he will have both women or (many) in heaven to help him procreate worlds. Women do not have this option, they cannot get sealed more than once. Even though polygamy is not practiced on earth, polygamy can be practiced in heaven and is considered a celestial law. Unless this has changed recently, someone tell me.
to 1castido: President Hinckley never avoided an issue. In fact he was the first president of the church to really reach out to the media. However, you discuss things appropriately for the setting. Larry King was not looking for an extended answer on what our doctrine is. He was looking for simple, easy-for-everyone-to-understand answers. President Hinckley did not mince words. He did not hide or opologize. There are official statements of the church that cover...
I am sorry, he has no Idea what Gay people go through, He openly admits that doesn't know much about weather it is chosen or a person is born gay, and that he isn't a expert on the subject, but makes rules and statements that effect the lives of gay people in the negative. The Mormon church can believe anything it wants, that's a free country, but leave us alone to make our own choices. If this means you have to leave the mormon church, than leave it.
If you agree with this then please answer this question. What is a family? the issue is that you likely define it as a man and a women. The fact is two women can, and many are, a family. Gay couples can successfully raise great children to be productive members of society and I would argue produce successful children at a higher rate then heterosexual couples because their children are raised to be independent thinkers who don't rely on indoctrination.
President Hinckley is forever etched in my memory! He was the Prophet I was baptized under. I will miss him, but I know President Monson will do just as good a job.
Oh, I love Mr Hincley! So true, full of love, smart and genue and humble but strong. And take a look at tha true beauty of his eyes, its amazing. He was a great man. R.I.P

I Am Gay, I have been a member since 87, but never was loved, or taken in, so much hate for me, in my ward! If only, only if they were like President Hinckely and said I had a problem, and tryed to help me, but they blackballed me from ever really fitting in:) RIP President Hinckely, wish I had meet you , maybe you would have help me, unlike my church ward:)
I respect this man. However, I disagree with his comment that gay people have "a problem". He's a compasssionate man, but I think he remains ignorant to a concept which he is not very familiar with.
I love you President Hinkley!! I hope you are having a great time with Sister Hinkley in your eternal Family up there!! I love you. I already miss you so much. Your love for people taught me to love, repect and serve people of all faiths and all beliefs, and to serve those with no beliefs at all. Thank you so much for all you've for Alinda Olsen. She loves you and cant' wait to continue the great work of the Lords church here on the earth.
How happy I am that no one has yet turned to those with negative comments and tried to attack but turn the other cheek and give warm support instead. Mormons shouldn't have to defend themselves for their faith. Thank the Lord for this great man.
He's not an expert on gay, but I assume he's an expert on Bible. Well, Bible was not designed to answer all the question people might have in the coming millenniums, contrary to what many people try to convey. I would not want to learn to fly a jet from a Bible, nor is it a good sex guide, it won't tell you many things you might want to know. It is a good book though, and it has it's purpose.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced moments ago that President Gordon B. Hinckley has died. He was 97 years old and was the 15th president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
I really do love the prophet. I loved the last portion on his philosophy on how it is wonderful to be a Mormon.
Something I will never understand is the church's stance on homosexuality. They are more accepting than a lot of other religions. However, I don't see how a same gender couple cannot be pro family.
I think it is much easier to be LDS in America, here in Australia it is difficult, you maybe the only one for miles and not have LDS neighbours, plus we do not get to see the Apostles very often. so you tube is a blessing in my life.
I don't believe that being gay is a problem. I believe you are born with it.I do believe that the church loves gay people and is only working with what they have. Ill come out that I am a gay mormon and proud of my church. While i realize all that has happened before concerning the Evergreen program,I think we need to be forgiving and work with one another through everything and ask god for guidance because I can say that the Lord has helped me in hard times and given me many wonderful blessings.
It seemed to me like Larry King implied that Mormons have to be perfect or that if you sin, you are kicked out. It's as if any mistake on Hinckley's part would indicate that he isn't a member of the church. Ridiculous. All people have to struggle to become better and choose the right above the 'right now.'
So gay Mormons won't be able to spend eternal life with God, since Mormons believe only couples married in LDS temples can spend eternity in God's presence. Very Christlike!!
I love President Hinckley...I think he answered all of Larry King's questions beautifully. He has such a wonderful spirit and it's no wonder he is a man of God. We are all very blessed to have a true prophet, today in our day!!!
He's right about gays. They do have a problem. I'm not being rude here. I have a relative who was once gay and has told me that they are going through a hard time in their lives, including him before.
yeah, castido, I would agree with you. Generally a very likeable guy. He does though have a habit of avoiding tough questions and then acting like he doesn't know what is being asked. I feel that if we did that we would be looked down upon.
please understand that just because he is not answering the way you want him 2 doesnt mean he is avoiding questions at all. Listen to his answers again, pray about them.
If he avoid questions it's because those questions are just to make him say something that anti-mormons can use later to attack him the Church...just take a look over the anti-mormon videos and you'll know why he does what he does...to me he is right when he avoid those questions...!!!
Don't put negative marks on this person because he Felt like President Hinkley was doing something he felt wasn't right. He wouldn't have said it if he didn't honestly feel that way. His oppinions and believes are just a valid as our own.
He doesn't avoid anything. He says it as it is. Listen from about 40 secs. in. He says "i'm not an expert on these things. I don't pretend to be an expert on these things." There's nothing shifty about this man.
That seems more an equivocation than anything else. I wish he would have elaborated on the stance. Instead, he tried to compare gay celibacy (which must endure for an entire lifetime, with NO hope of having sexual and emotional intimacy with a loving committed partner)to heterosexual celibacy (which has a hope of one day being able to connect with an intimate partner in a sanctioned relationship).
Isn't it the same thing when liberals say they are pro-choice and not pro-killing-fetuses-because-we-think-we-can-define-when-something-develops-a-soul-and/or-don't-care-that-it-has-a-soul?
You may want to consider the time at which this interview was given. It was given Christmas Eve night at the Tabernacle in SLC. Probably not the ideal place for getting into deep church doctrines. There are other times when Pres Hinckley has been VERY straight-forward...just watch some of the past priesthood sessions. I do, however, understand your desire to hear Pres Hinckley say it like it is. I just don't think it was the right time when this live interview was given.
Ruff issue isn't it? So what are your thoughts? I believe you would have to be a strong spirit to be entrusted with such a hard and controversial problem.
maybe you believe homosexuality is not a problem at all. I respect your oppionions. I just want to know your thoughts on this issue.
I wish Hinckley would be more bold and open about the stance/teachings of the Church. I wish he would take the time to flesh out his thoughts to the interviewers, instead of generally giving short answers to controversial issues.
I think that mr.hinckley is answering the way he is BECAUSE he is trying not cause anyMORE controversy for the LDS church...it could be taken the wrong way (he did say they had a problem) but that still might not be the best way to get through to such people (in all it might just drive them farther away...as he said "we love them and try to work with them") i think he said enough with "we are not anti-gay, we are pro family"
you can't give a more straight answer. There is no elaboration on the subject. Marriage is between a man and a woman. There is no room for anything else. There is no other doctrine or stand in the church about gays and lesbians. It is a challenge that people must overcome. Just like alcoholism, not having premarital sex, being faithful to one's spouse, ect. We all have different challenges that we must overcome.
I would like it also, however he probably gives short answers so people do not try to misrepresent his words, which we have on going with people who are not members of our faith, and even when I correct peoples missunderstandings they continue to believe the way they do. He provides people with what they need to hear.
What questions would you like answered? I would be happy to try and answer them. I am not going to pretend that I know everything, but if you seriously have a question about my church I will try my best.
Have you considered that maybe he is talking from the spirit? He possibly prayed to God for inspiration before he got on the show. Remember, he is one of God's instruments, There are somes things that maybe should not be brought up at this time.
He explains everything you need to know but thier not all on youtube, theres been many confernces we've had, this is just a small collection of videos posted up,
I agree with what you say for the most part. Than I start to think that he knows exactly how and what to say. He and god know that people can only be converted by the spirit. The spirit is so strong that I tear up even when he jokes and makes idle conversation. I'm sure non members get the same feeling as well;)
I am absolutely amazed how Romney was a supporter of Gay Rights, Abortions and other things that the Mormon Church does not condone. So my question is, why hasnt he been excommunicated? And, for the record, Mr. Marriott of Marriott International Hotels, a devout Mormon, allows porn and alchohol in his hotels? Why hasnt he been excommunicated?
Good grief I miss this man!! :)
Love you, Prez Hinckley :D

I don't believe that being gay is a problem. I believe you are born with it.I do believe that the church loves gay people and is only working with what they have. Ill come out that I am a gay mormon and proud of my church. While i realize all that has happened before concerning the Evergreen program,I think we need to be forgiving and work with one another through everything and ask god for guidance because I can say that the Lord has helped me in hard times and given me many wonderful blessings.

I love my prophet!!! Yes it is wonderful being a mormon! <3

the prophet is so right and so wise.. more people should watch this.

It seemed to me like Larry King implied that Mormons have to be perfect or that if you sin, you are kicked out. It's as if any mistake on Hinckley's part would indicate that he isn't a member of the church. Ridiculous. All people have to struggle to become better and choose the right above the 'right now.'

I believe him. He is our living prophet in the last day.

He is indeed a Man of God. He is the prophet of this time and I know it with my whole heart.

what kind of soft ball questions are these.

So gay Mormons won't be able to spend eternal life with God, since Mormons believe only couples married in LDS temples can spend eternity in God's presence. Very Christlike!!

I love the prophet! HE'S DEFINATELY THE LORD's MOUTHPIECE HERE ON EARTH!!

I love President Hinckley...I think he answered all of Larry King's questions beautifully. He has such a wonderful spirit and it's no wonder he is a man of God. We are all very blessed to have a true prophet, today in our day!!!

Family can mean many things. It needn't be the traditional father, mother and 2.3 kids. It can be a grouping of close friends, etc.

He's Awesome, always positive and straight forward.

He's right about gays. They do have a problem. I'm not being rude here. I have a relative who was once gay and has told me that they are going through a hard time in their lives, including him before.

I love him. He is my favorite prophet.
SaltandVinegar12 4 years ago 75
I generally like him too. It's his habit of avoiding questions and acting like he doesn't know what's being asked that I don't like.
1castido 4 years ago
He's not here to answer the questions of the world, he's here to remind the world of the important perspective to have in this life.
zuche123 4 years ago
No, he is answering the questions, why can't you see that?
Lowellrichardlowe3rd 4 years ago
yeah, castido, I would agree with you. Generally a very likeable guy. He does though have a habit of avoiding tough questions and then acting like he doesn't know what is being asked. I feel that if we did that we would be looked down upon.
omiolo 4 years ago
please understand that just because he is not answering the way you want him 2 doesnt mean he is avoiding questions at all. Listen to his answers again, pray about them.
smallpair 4 years ago
If he avoid questions it's because those questions are just to make him say something that anti-mormons can use later to attack him the Church...just take a look over the anti-mormon videos and you'll know why he does what he does...to me he is right when he avoid those questions...!!!
elvaron2006 4 years ago
He doesn't avoid answering the questions, you probably just don't understand what he means. He answers every question honestly and fully.
ktwesterna 4 years ago
Don't put negative marks on this person because he Felt like President Hinkley was doing something he felt wasn't right. He wouldn't have said it if he didn't honestly feel that way. His oppinions and believes are just a valid as our own.
mrscarpachie 4 years ago
Well the reason that i think he avoids some questions is, is that he doesnt want to argue or make it seem like he is arguing.
DevanTFrancom 3 years ago
He doesn't avoid anything. He says it as it is. Listen from about 40 secs. in. He says "i'm not an expert on these things. I don't pretend to be an expert on these things." There's nothing shifty about this man.

nice..."we are not anti-gay, we are pro family"...

Isn't it the same thing when liberals say they are pro-choice and not pro-killing-fetuses-because-we-think-we-can-define-when-something-develops-a-soul-and/or-don't-care-that-it-has-a-soul?

no hope in a life time? what is a life time compared to eternity. it is better to have self control than to conquer a city.

I just don't think it was the right time when this live interview was given.
lancegamero 4 years ago
Ruff issue isn't it? So what are your thoughts? I believe you would have to be a strong spirit to be entrusted with such a hard and controversial problem.
maybe you believe homosexuality is not a problem at all. I respect your oppionions. I just want to know your thoughts on this issue.
mrscarpachie 4 years ago
pres. hinckley did great... if u were not satisfied with his answers, then u go talk to the media about it.
ajafualo 3 years ago
I wish Hinckley would be more bold and open about the stance/teachings of the Church. I wish he would take the time to flesh out his thoughts to the interviewers, instead of generally giving short answers to controversial issues.
1castido 4 years ago
I think that mr.hinckley is answering the way he is BECAUSE he is trying not cause anyMORE controversy for the LDS church...it could be taken the wrong way (he did say they had a problem) but that still might not be the best way to get through to such people (in all it might just drive them farther away...as he said "we love them and try to work with them") i think he said enough with "we are not anti-gay, we are pro family"
quimini 4 years ago
You want him more open so you can criticize him even more. No matter the answer you will always have something to say.
cesarsousa70 4 years ago
he represents the church not himself, so he can't flesh out his own opinion to represent the lord's church
dawild77 4 years ago
you can't give a more straight answer. We all have different challenges that we must overcome.
ruano21 4 years ago
I would like it also, however he probably gives short answers so people do not try to misrepresent his words, which we have on going with people who are not members of our faith, and even when I correct peoples missunderstandings they continue to believe the way they do. He provides people with what they need to hear.
flyfisherX 4 years ago
What questions would you like answered? I would be happy to try and answer them. I am not going to pretend that I know everything, but if you seriously have a question about my church I will try my best.

why don't you pick up a book of mormon and find out yourself!
iluvdaniel1607 4 years ago
Have you considered that maybe he is talking from the spirit? He possibly prayed to God for inspiration before he got on the show. Remember, he is one of God's instruments, There are somes things that maybe should not be brought up at this time.
Hackett20 3 years ago
He explains everything you need to know but thier not all on youtube, theres been many confernces we've had, this is just a small collection of videos posted up,
FutureMissionary18 3 years ago 2
