When a person goes through something bad they choose to either learn from it and come out stronger, or learn from it and come out weaker, and more negative. Mormons believe in mariage between a man and many women. One of our widowed ward members married and sealed for eternity his second wife....expecting to have two so far in the next life.

Polygamy isn't practiced anymore? Not on earth, but in heaven it will be practiced, men can have another sealing to another wife, if his wife dies. He keeps both of them in the after life. umm... okay... but Mormon women do have plenty of privilages. More then people think they do. Mormons don't believe in having many wives anymore, those are the FLDS, not the LDS. There's a difference.

Of course Mormon women have a lot of privileges, no one was saying they don't. However, When a wife dies, the man can get sealed to more than one woman, meaning he will have both women or (many) in heaven to help him procreate worlds. Women do not have this option, they cannot get sealed more than once. Even though polygamy is not practiced on earth, polygamy can be practiced in heaven and is considered a celestial law. Unless this has changed recently, someone tell me.

I am sorry, he has no Idea what Gay people go through, He openly admits that doesn't know much about weather it is chosen or a person is born gay, and that he isn't a expert on the subject, but makes rules and statements that effect the lives of gay people in the negative. If you agree with this then please answer this question. What is a family? the issue is that you likely define it as a man and a women. The fact is two women can, and many are, a family. Gay couples can successfully raise great children to be productive members of society and I would argue produce successful children at a higher rate then heterosexual couples because their children are raised to be independent thinkers who don't rely on indoctrination.

Instead, he tried to compare gay celibacy (which must endure for an entire lifetime, with NO hope of having sexual and emotional intimacy with a loving committed partner)to heterosexual celibacy (which has a hope of one day being able to connect with an intimate partner in a sanctioned relationship).

You may want to consider the time at which this interview was given. It was given Christmas Eve night at the Tabernacle in SLC. Probably not the ideal place for getting into deep church doctrines. There are other times when Pres Hinckley has been VERY straight-forward...just watch some of the past priesthood sessions. I do, however, understand your desire to hear Pres Hinckley say it like it is. I just don't think it was the right time when this live interview was given.

you can't give a more straight answer. There is no elaboration on the subject. Marriage is between a man and a woman. There is no room for anything else. There is no other doctrine or stand in the church about gays and lesbians. It is a challenge that people must overcome. Just like alcoholism,not having premarital sex, being faithful to one's spouse, ect. We all have different challenges that we must overcome.

I agree with what you say for the most part. Than I start to think that he knows exactly how and what to say. He and god know that people can only be converted by the spirit. The spirit is so strong that I tear up even when he jokes and makes idle conversation. I'm sure non members get the same feeling as well;)

And, for the record, Mr. Marriott of Marriott International Hotels, a devout Mormon, allows porn and alchohol in his hotels? Why hasnt he been excommunicated?
