I must've been asleep or heavily sedated during the Savage era because I don't remember seeing this video or even knowing of its existence. Annie's voice is exquisite as always.
it wasnt untill I saw this video and this is only my interpration of it .........
Perhaps this is also about a new generation (brand new day) and relinquishing all the baggage of or own insecurites from what we have carried but understanding our children and the next generation have a clean slate and should be welcomed into a brand new day without any of our burdens or baggage we have carried with us
I bought this album when it came out, and used to listen to this track over and over (then at the time in an apartment which faced east)... it was the bright hopeful coda to an album full of emotional journey. In my interpretation (from my miserable home!) it was the person at new dawn awakening fumbling towards the light, excoriating the dark rockpile behind, then trotting and running. The staging I think is distilling that into symbols -- look for them.
@maxminz Correcting myself here, the video speaks in dance set onto evolving performers at their mixed ages, and speaks out of each in crossover time -- including the mixed moments of confetti and bouquets. It explores the question Annie sings, can such an "emerging-from" experience be distilled into ageless human movement and some *simple* costumes and props and lighting? (Versus the Andrew Lloyd Webber version where the $2 million volcano appears at stage-right and we praise our tickets.)
@counselorscot43 In a way it does. The dancers are expressing music through movement in way Jaque Emil Dalcroze devolped called eurythmic dancing! But I do see what you mean, though.... the effect comes off a little trite.
It's inevitable that if you try to make a music video for 11 songs, one of them is bound to be insufficient, and this is the one.
