  • that was one of the best races i have ever seen. so much action and drama throughout.

  • двадцать негритят собрались на гран-при

до финиша из них добрались только три :-)

  • His one and only victory, it was at the Monaco GP and Olivier Panis is forever in the history books.

  • lol @ the podium. Its just a stair case with each of the drivers up and down it

  • 完走たったの3台のサバイバルレース。フランス人がフランスのチームでモナコを勝つ。

    オリビエ・パニスの生涯唯一の勝利。

    しかしこの日以降、フランスのモータースポーツは完全に死んでしまった。

  • DC with MS helmet?

  • I just watched it, good to see such a fantastic old grand prix:D I was 6 six years old back then...:D

  • Amazing GP! thank you for this :)

  • was this the last of a frenchman to win a grand prix

  • I saw Alain Prost at the McLaren pit. What kind of job he had at the time? An advisory one I suppose?

  • He can't believe it. He hits his head.. He hits his helmet, is it TRUE?!! Is it a dream? Is it 6 o'clock on Sunday morning OR I HAVE I WON FOR FRANCE!? Have I won at Monte Carlo!

  • Amazing race. Truly incredible. I love these commentators too. At first when I saw part 1 i was like... why isn't Murray doing the commentary? But I grew to love these two! I think they're still doing commentary today. Thanks for this wonderful upload!

  • 5.52 - Nice chick!!!

  • @Marcus666Sund Yes, that's Mrs Panis.

  • I remember this race so well. Me and my Dad watched it and were so pleased for Panis. A great race ... thanks for uploading!

  • thanks for uploading, what a fantastic race it was.

  • 4 cars actually finished!

  • @CDUB8989 3 CARS

  • does some french win a race from this victory of Oli Panis??

  • Thanks for comments.Panis was an F1 hero.

  • Watson is oblivious to Jean Alesi. LOL

  • Was that Panis's wife at 0:51? I don't have working audio..

  • @darthbandon10

    yes it´s his wife

  • i've been following f1 since 2000 but this was possibly the best and most dramatic monaco gp i've ever seen.....I LOVE F1!!!!!!!

  • hmm the first frenchman to win since prost? they seemed to totally forget about alesi's win in canada 95

  • Had Panis not broken his legs in 97', I believe he could have even won the WC! With Prost! But that crash really changed him after that. :(

  • To go from 14th to 1st is simply fantastic. One of the greatest races of all time. great job O. Panis

  • One of the greatest races in F! history. Im so Happy, O. Panis won it. Fantastic.

  • After Hakkinen , Salo And Irvine Crashed They Should Red Flag The Race , Or Even Get a Safety Car out !

  • Well, it was quite obvious that this was to be the last lap because you won't drive from Casino square to main straight in 20 seconds... So it wasn't diorganised, but just common sense.

  • One of my favourite races of the 90's. Panis did deeserve the victory. He wqs awesome in the opening laps in the wet and then Ligier made an early stop. Hill and Alesi especially was gutting (as usual for Jean). But this was a great, great moment to experience :-)

  • what a crazy race...incredible coulthard with a more more faster car he coudn't attack panis in the final...

  • Fantastic, amazing race. Well done for Panis, although I felt gutted for Damon and Jean.

  • One of the most unbelievable races I've ever watched on TV. Watching classics like this again brings back some memories. I can still remember them as if it were yesterday. This was real racing, not boring crap we are getting to see due to foolish FIA rules, inventions and restrictions which kill all the fun for both drivers and spectators. As for this race I was of course unhappy to see Schumacher out this early but then again the only driver who really deserved to win this race was Panis.

  • And he deserved it from the first moment on. I'm glad that his dream became reality and wish at least one of my dreams would work out like his did in this race....but maybe I don't deserve it or maybe regaining someone's love in order to spend a happy life together with someone forever is a much greater challenge than winning the Monaco Grand Prix in a Ligier. So far I haven't managed any of those two things...

  • Thank you mister schopfheim91 for uploading this videos

  • i heard piquet snr fixed the race

  • syckns rocks

  • Although I should have wanted Coulthard or Herbert to win. It was just funny seeing Panis win lol!

  • I was just happy seeing Schumaher out but Panis on the podium was fun

  • Fantastic race it was...

Thanks for sharing this with us mate....=)

  • This was the best race in Monaco at all time and care but the most exciting in the history of F1, frustration for some, joy for others ..! We see an E. Irvine that although he took the blue flag will never step a sedi D. Coulthard, J. Alessi to boot a victory by the veto, and that O. Panis won his only race in the 1st and the F1 ..! I remember when I saw her live, full emocion ..! .. Congratulations on this material!

  • please add 2003 canadian grand prix!!!!

  • Bollocks! A Frenchman should be winning nothing other than a booby prize...

  • what a amn and what a car., its nice when someone new wins and that was his only f1 win

  • Wonderful commentating by John Wason.

  • Very joyful footage. It must have been a hilarious feeling watching this one live.

Long live Olivier Panis. A truly talented frenchman, last to win a Grand Prix for France.

  • At :35, that's the fastest a Forti car has gone

  • LAWL!

  • You are my hero for uploading this.

  • I wish F1 was still like this. Great drivers, great teams, great cars. It's a shame that Panis got injured later and Prost team got slower after '97. Panis would have deserved a faster car.

  • Thanks for uploading all this. Really takes you back... :D

  • i wonder how badly this race affected both the drivers and the constructors championships?

so many DNFs and the ppl most thought would win didnt even finish

    epic race.

  • Although Hill deserved to win this, Panis drove outstandingly well. When everyone switched to the slicks he was comfortably the fastest and most confident and he actually managed to pass people on the track. Frentzen had the pace but lost his nerve and many others succumbed to bad luck. Whether or not people see this a lucky win, it would not have justified his talent had Panis not won a Grand Prix. It's a shame Montreal '97 had to happen.

  • I wonder where Jos Verstappen would have ended if he wasn't pushed off in the first corner.

  • It was effectly in Montreal 95, but it was Jean Alesi...

  • Thanks for the upload.

    Great race.

Love the " first time we hear french anthem since... Alain Prost "

    Montreal 95 , maybe ?

  • It had to be said DC was a fantastic Monaco driver

  • Yes, his very clean driving style helped him a lot through the narrow streets of Monaco. He could drive lap after lap in almost exactly the same line and every lap was as clean as the one before. I think he was nowhere as good as at Monaco.

  • DC's Best F1 Track

  • Amazing and unique victory, but he was lucky.

  • Of course, he was lucky that Hill and Alesi retired, but I think in any case he could have finished third. So he was lucky, but it was very well driven as well, especially the pass on Irvine was very cool.

  • Surely Salo and Hakinnen both got points for completing over 88% of the Grand Prix

  • Yes, that was the case.

  • Okay thanks

  • Too Bad he only won one race, but similar to Vettel's win, it was a huge upset.

  • Panis was one of the best in the 90's.

Big experience and good driving abilities, but he always had not very competitive cars.

    It's a mess.

  • In 1997, he was 3rd in the championship until he had that horrible crash at Montreal. I think that this accident took a lot of his talent away from him.

  • I think so too.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this race. I've been wanting to see this for quite a few years now and to be honest, I was never truly expecting to see it. When I found this entire GP here, I was ecstatic! Again, many many thanks for this upload.

  • Thanx for sharing. As of my opinion it was the best Formular 1 race ever happened. I remember me back in 1996 thrilled in front of the screen while watching this last live coverage on German TV at Eurosport (thanx to s**t RTL) listen to John Watson and his buddy talking Panis to victory and watching Olivier showing all other drivers how to overtake on that track while Coulthard wearing "Schumis" helmet and Alesi again is loosing a race on a warm and rainy race day at Monaco. Fantastic!

  • Although it was a race of high attrition and Panis was lucky. I really was happy to see Ligier and Panis win, they kept out of trouble and deserved their moment in the spotlight. Well done to them!

  • Panis first and only victory.

  • Last Ligier's victory was Canada 1981, by the great "Jacquot" Laffite!!

  • Notice Coulthard earing Michael Schumacher's helmet for the race. Why, I cannot remember.

  • DC's own helmet was misting up in the rain.

  • When Jonathan said "since Alain Prost" is false. Jean Alesi won the 1994 Canadian Grand Prix.

    I guess he missed that.

  • '95.

  • No, 94'.

  • I´m sure by now you´ve found out Canada 1995 was Alesi´s..

  • It was '95, Schumcaher won it in '94 Didn't he?

  • It was 96,Schumi won it in 94 and 95.

  • 95, Schumi only won in 1994.

  • It is the 1995 GP of Canada.

  • Monaco is a great leveler, a lot of good drivers have got their only wins in Monaco.

  • The two British drivers are like: TURN OFF THAT SHIT! when listening to the French National Anthem.

LOVEEE PRINCESS CAROLINE!!, fuck, she's cute.

  • Olivier nearly won in Spain in 1997.

  • And even more in Argentina.

  • Yep. I was there cheering for him :)

  • If only Panis had not broken his legs in Canada...

If only Prost Grand prix hadn't been a disaster...

Oh dear! It almost hurts to think about what could have been!

  • When Panis broke his legs, he was third in the championship! In a Prost! And just remember that his replacement Trulli almost won in Austria.

  • Oh yes. I just looked at the review of the 1997 season. And he was really flying at the beginning of the season! I somewhat doubt that he would have been able to finish in the top three in the championship, but there was definaetly a possibility for another race win.

I really liked Panis. I just can't understand how Prost could have gone from being a giant killer in 1997 to a down right disaster in 1998.

  • There are some reasons for that: The 1997 car was in fact the Benetton of 1994 and Prost was the only competitive Bridgestone runner in 1997. Apart from that Alain Prost made the mistake to make it an all French team with exchanging the Mugen-Honda engine with the Peugeot engine. And of course 1997 Prost was actually still Ligier. The first real Prost GP season was 1998.

  • Simple: Prost didn't have problems with the car in 1997. In '98, they had bad tyres and in '99, the car was very heavy.

  • Well, maybe not the exact shunt, because the last 3 races showed that he still got IT, after that break. Mostly because of Prost's bad managing & unreliable BAR. Ofcourse we can say, that if there's no crash, the reality'd be completely different, but it's like argueing about the butterfly effect. :P

Nonetheless 98-04 seasons WERE shite, but looking backwards nobody to this very day can say, that he had no skills or no potential. He gave Ligier its last, nineth win & had his moments of glory.

  • If Panis hadn't broken his legs he would have been for good things in 1997 I guess.

  • Yes, the JS45 was one of the best car on the grid (and one of my favorite ever). :D

  • Goods memories, the unique Panis victory, not enough for his talent. It's like Alesi in Canada in 1995.

Note then David Coulthard wear Michael Schumacher's spare helmet, because Coulthard had problems with his one.

  • In the Swiss TV they still commentate as if it still was Sauber

  • Formally yes, but the 1997 Prost Team was in fact a Ligier

  • Lovely to see Olivier looking so young, but it's a shame this was his only win and that he had those awful things to come.

  • very good race in EUROSPORT

  • Wonderful race. Even though I knew the outcome it still had me riveted and nervous to know the how it turned out. Amazing drive by Oli

  • Kimi Raikkonen and Ayrton Senna are the most talented drivers in F1 history

  • Senna yes... Raikkonen has a way to go to be considered at the very top level.

  • Maybe so. But what does that have to do with this race?

  • Thanks for posting this GP!

  • What an amazing finish to the race with the retirements at the end, just awesome. Anybody else Coulthard putting his legs to good use so he can clap Panis on the podium? Guess he didn't think to just put the trophy down :P

  • proper racing there!

  • why coulthard had the helmet from schumacher?

  • His helmet was damaged and DC and Schumi were good friends back then.

  • DC in schumi helmet :D

  • lol its funny as.

  • Ligier , last victory...

  • *see any of those AGAIN

  • I remember this one :) as I'm a dedicated F1 fan for years now.

It was really cool to watch this F1 classic, I doubt if we get to see any of those considering today's rules and standards.

I hope there's more where this came from, thank U very much for the upload. :)

  • why there is the time remaning?i was only seven i don't remember this race:)

  • In Formula 1, it is one of two things. The race is either the advertised distance (which was 78 laps at Monaco) or two hours. This race only lasted 75 laps before the two hours were complete. Hope this helps you out.

  • Bed Edwards and John Wtason..reunited for Sky Sports A1 GP Coverage

  • hey man fantastic uploads... great to see this classis again... so much better than what this year's race was. muchos gracias!
