  • Oh NO, you fell off the planet, I hope you didn't hurt yourself, how shall I ever continue to live if I can't see your face anymore????

  • maybe an analogy to sum up what im asking...

if you sharpen a knife too much, eventually it will become dull.

  • No. That's not what happens when you sharpen a knife too much. It just stays sharp, and will eventually wear out.

It's not an analogy that works with humans, because our brains don't stop working if we think too much about things. If what you said is true then we should have stagnated quite some time ago, whereas the truth is that in the last 100 years our grasp of science has gone absolutely crazy.

It's going to the end, of course.

  • thats not really what i meant with the knife analogy. i think we are making ourselves more seperated from the truth, as science progresses and we become more dependent on it for answers. i beleive without technology, humans would be extinct, we are way too domesticated. essentially we are stunting evolution just like any other domesticated animal. i'm just asking once humans are extinct will it be like before humans were formed, like every animal is domesticated and maladapted to survive.

  • heh this is hard to convey in a comment! evolution kind of codes i guess for organisms to a specific enviornment. so we have evolved into a domesticated enviornment, and science has really become our evolutionary crutch. its the worlds failsafe for intelligent life forms. we think we are highly evolved beings, and we are, but it might be past the point of intelligence into programed extinction. like we are able to know, but only glimpse at the design before the system rubs us out.

  • Incorrect. The development of technology is necessarily part of our evolution. Extrabiological evolution may "stunt" any further biological evolution but as it's inevitable for an intelligent species, there is thus a limit to the dramatic effects of biological evolution.

  • andromeda could u clear a few things up for me. "the development of technology is necessarily part of our evolution". do you mean it is necessary or did you mean its *not necessarily?

what do you mean by extrabiological? our innate intelligence is biological.

im guessing you're saying that we have almost reached our biological potential. science is the art of observing. i think our species have created the gap between nature and nurture and as we widen the gap from nature, we become useles

  • "what do you mean by extrabiological?"

Anything not dependant on DNA, but man-made. Cars, computers etc. Advances in technology eliminate our need to be fit to survive, thus our gene pool does not get refined at a great rate.

Evolution continues, at a much slower rate.

  • well, thats where im going with this. i mean the extrabiological has limited our evolution, making us susceptible to extinction. like i said, technology has become our crutch.

i have this idea that there were advanced civilizations, like ours, thousands or millions of years ago. theyre fate will end like ours. i dont think humans are the most intelligent beings to ever inhabit the earth. ofcourse, this is just speculation, but i have to keep the notion available because its very possible.

  • nicely done! i've been thinking about the theories of abiogenesis and evolution. it seems our understanding of the universe and our inhabitance of it is being grasped exponentially alongside with technology. I believe humans, along with science are evolving. I think its fair to say the more aware we become, more questions then answers are presented. The pattern becomes more subtle and complex, and simply living is not enough. I'm just curious where this is going. to the end or beginning?
