Wow, thanks for this video. I cannot tolerate gluten grains like wheat and oats, but I also cannot tolerate gluten free grains like brown rice and quinoa. What type of tests should I ask my doctor to test for? What specialist should I try to find in Austin, TX.
Oh hello! Have you considered intellectus 424 diet (do a search on google)? Ive heard some great things about it and my sister lost lots of weight with it.
With 40-50% of the population having a problem with gluten it is not a fad, it is an epidemic. I am gluten intolerant, so is my husband, my two cousins (one blood, one by marriage), my parents, my brother, my sister in law, my in-laws, and everyone of us has seen a substantial health benefit from no more migraines or gut rot to lowering thyroid medications and finally some heart burn relief.
@artthugable I have checked and double checked and actually think it is higher than that even. But this particular stat comes from Dr. Vikki Petersen who literally wrote the book on Gluten and deals with it every day at her practice. I'd say it's pretty reliable. ;)
@FletcherHabit That is the hope I'm currently living under and my ultimate goal. I was successfully off thyroid meds for 8 months this past year until I got into some casein laden ghee for a few weeks (I also have an auto-immune casein issue) and got copper toxic from an IUD. I had a thyroid relapse and am back on meds. BUT my goal remains and given that I couldn't go two weeks without meds in the past without losing it I think 8 months is a sign I am on the right track.
@Cypressmyst I too am autoimmune casein/gluten and my thyroid has indeed suffered over my life eating these proteins unwittingly. Also I am copper toxic too . Ive been gluten/casein free for 8 months and am feeling better overall..key things for me is kelp (250-400mcg Iodine) , selenium (600mcg.), vitamin D (2000-6000IU) and exercise.
The thyroid is a finicky sort of gland as im sure you know.. but stopping the harm is most important to beginning recovery/regeneration. GL2U
@FletcherHabit So it seems that the thyroid will always be a weak link and in times of stress you may need meds again. The poor gland has had a rough life wouldn't you agree?
I got off grains completely as they all have gluten in some form and worked closely with a functional medicine doctor. It is a lot of work but there is no better goal then good health. ;)
a lot of doctors are not up to date on gluten. They don't know how to test properly. I have been told the best way to see if you're intolerant is to cut thing out and see how you feel (like josh had mentioned is this video). But don't go by doctor's test unless they know what they r doing.
@XforeverlongingX OMG like........ really......like....totally.....i mean......really. Like do you even know what intolerant means?....i mean really. lol
A plug for grains? I'm assuming that's from the metabolic typing where carbo types are said to need a lot of carbohydrates to feel good and have energy. No disagreement here that some people's genes are better adapted to eat concentrated sources of carbohydrates than others but I'm a little skeptical that just because they can then that means that they should. In your experience is there just no way a carbo type could thrive eating mostly fat and protein? To me that doesn't make much sense.
thanks man always making me think. i have been a strict paleo eater ditching all grains even though ive had tests done that show i am not wheat or gluten intolerant. so your saying my health would benefit from adding whole organic grains?
Great information ! . Makes alot of sense , Thankyou !!!

Quinoa as far as I understand is a seed. It's gluten free, too. But he lumped it in with W,R,B (wheat, rye, barley) among others. Why?

@Cypressmyst You need to check your facts. Less then .5 of a percent of all the people in the us are
gluten intolerant.

@artthugable - How did you come up with that number?

@grvonny Do you even know what intolerant means? Celiac disease and gluten intolerance are not synonymous.

corn is healthy????!!!!

@surfa01234 You're right. What I learned in nursing school was that corn was pretty worthless as far as nutrition.

If you were to choose the lab tests option, how much would something like that cost Josh?
WellnessMafia 1 year ago
@WellnessMafia
Depends on the lab.
joshrubineastwest 1 year ago
@joshrubineastwest Oh. that much.
WellnessMafia 1 year ago
@WellnessMafia Don't ever test for celiac disease through an alternative lab or any lab. Do it through biopsy with a gastroenterologist.
