That's what I would love to do with compassion being a Security Response Team. But what are the chances. They pick you for the selection, you don't chose the position. If some one has trained and in great physical shape want to do it, they wont chose you. they'll put you on a ship and start scraping bird ship off the floor. I thought of many times of joining. I'm in great shape know how to use pistol and assault from training courses.
Tactics are developed based on your enemy's capabilities, your own weapons systems' capabilities and rules of engagement. No one knows how to board boats/ships in open water better than the Coast Guard. That's why LEDET teams are aboard US Navy ships. Also, because the US Coast Guard is the only military force allowed to do law enforcement on the seas, it is the only authority on the subject. The Marines don't board to enforce law. The Marines board to kill. Very different tactics.
The current helicopter fleet upgrades are refitting the Dolphins and Jay Hawks with weapons (M-240/M-2.) The HH-60J is re-designated as the MH-60T once it is refitted. Thus, the HH-60's aren't armed, while the MH-60's are/can be. The upgrades are scheduled to be completed on all Coast Guard Jay Hawks by 2014.
Really The Coast Guars MSRT Security Team Is Cool But The Only Thing Is Thats Its Apart Of The Coast Guard DOG Which Means You Could Get Deployed And Im Not Looking To Get Deployed!! Lol
@YoungxFamous365 I am in the Coast Guard Reserves and you and get deployed no matter what unit you are in. Many of us were deployed for Deep water , Haiti , and Katrina.
@afcgeo Why not? arent these teams suppose to be taking down dangerous ships with potentially hostile people on board? The dolphin crews got 240s why dont these guys? thats not very wise on the CG part.
@highspeed777 The Jay Hawk is a long-range helicopter not deployed on Cutters. It hasn't really been used in interdiction roles yet. The special go-fast units in FL got to test out and develop armed helicopter tactics on Augusta aircraft which I guess didn't pan out, but now, the USCG is upgrading all of its helicopters to be armed and interchangeable in missions. It is the Coast Guard way.
@afcgeo Its not hard to develop those tactics they can work with the marines and NSW they've been boarding ships for years via helo insertions and theyre taking quite sometime fitting helos I do think its a good step for the Coast Guard though however after looking at theyre training they might want to vamp that up alittle after watch a few DOG vids on youtube.
@sparklerbombg There is not longer the PS rating. It has been since changed to the ME (Maritime Law Enforcement Specialist) rating. It is both active and reserves now.
@sjerseyb856 MSRT , MSST , PSU , TACLETS and NSF all ARE most certainly part of the DOG. You on a computer and have the ability to research and look these topics up. I suggest you do so.
@sjerseyb856 Have you attended the Maritime Law Enforcement Academy? I seem to remember us covering the DOG and the units involved when I attended. Know what you are talking about on here before you respond.
@tc1530 yes i have i been to FLETC in south carolina back in 2005. And i worked with people from the msst in sector boston. DOG is not the same thing. You should have payed attention in class
@sjerseyb856 educate me please. I am not a kid. I have been in civilian law enforcement for 20 years. I have been a police officer in the city I work for for 8.5 years and a training officers. I have been around. I have only been with the Coast Guard for 4 years. I am a BO and the LEI at my Station. So having said that I want to make sure I know what I am talking about. Help me understand. They list MSST as well as the others in the DOG units and I have paperwork right here stating so.
@tc1530 Unless they merged them recently and i mean very recently then you might be right but as far as i know, the msst team in sector has nothin to do with DOG, i never knew anyone from the MRST or any other group.
@sjerseyb856 Do me a favor and google Coast Guard DOG and tell me what units they list. I have paperwork here that states.. Deployable Operation groups are as follow; MSRT , MSST , PSU , NSF and the dive lockers. I
@sjerseyb856 Hey no problem brother. Good to talk to a fellow Coastie. I assume you are active. Stay safe. Love the Coast Guard , gives me a nice break from the police department. Having said that I have to head to work for the my midnight shift. Take care.
@sjerseyb856 Not to be mean or sound cocky , I know for a fact all those unit are part of the DOG. I was just trying to get you to look it up. I know many people in each unit and have trained with them. I just called my buddy and he confirmed it (cause you doubted me--lol) but yes they are all part of the DOG. MSST 3 years ago. MSRT they are starting to phase out , but they are as well.
@sjerseyb856 As the reserve ME at my station and the OPSBO/LEI I am required to know the law enforcement end. So I try to keep up as much as possible. I do all the re-certs , JUFE and range.

@95rollin1 I think it may be a part of the ME rating. Kinda like SWAT for civilians. But I'm still asking around so don't take my word for it.
