This sign brings back so many memories of the old "modern" Holiday Inns in the late 60's through the 70's. It reminds me of road trips with the family....getting excited to know there was a pool. I remember the restaurant...and just a welcoming home feeling when we saw this late at night when tired---and I aso remember smelling the cypress fragrance as we headed from north to south!
I agree, BigBrowz; I sure wish they would bring them back. It would actually make me pony up the dough to stay in Holiday Inn. In the meantime, you can enjoy the Munger Moss in Lebanon, Mo or Rest Haven, in Springfield, Mo, both of which have impressive signs based on the Holiday Inn design.
And Pdasilva, I heartily recommend the American Sign Museum. Call first, though, as it's a tour-only proposition.
Thanks for bringing us this piece of roadside nostalgia.
