Thanks for this very well done video. Yeah, I know it's not rocket science, but it's good to have a clue before I go out to the bike. My throttle suddenly won't return.
Serious thank you man, your vid goes straight to the point and that's how it should always be in this tutorial thing. Thanks, I had too much free play on my 82 xs400 maxim and it was really hard to find a video that finally told me that if I tighten the adjuster it would give me more free play instead of less. THANKS, and keep up the good work.
@pmario89 First, you'll need to determine why it's sticking. Make sure the grip isn't hanging up on the end of the bar or against the switch housing. Make sure you're cable isn't adjusted to tight. Depending on the bike, it may also be easy to look at the cam the cable hooks into on the carb to ensure that is moving smoothly. Once you've ruled out the above, you can lube the cable. You may need to do that more a couple times. Let me know what you find and I can help more.
@jaydjshonuff I've gotten a little behind on producing them since the shop I was working for is no longer open. I have the next one, on clutch free play adjustment, almost edited and will try to post it this week. I now have a shop set up at home serving private clients and will start to film some more videos there. The good news is I can do a wider variety of them, since I don't have a boss worried about driving away business by telling people how to do things themselves.

Great and informative video. My throttle cable just snapped on my 07 Honda CBR600RR, i think. I'd know for sure if I knew how to remove the pull throttle cable. It will only loosen so far and then no more. Any help on how to get this end off? I know I've got to remove tank and such to get the other end off, but I'm having problems with other end. Thanks for any help.
@Dareisay07 You've got the ability to create slack at both ends of the cable. By the throttle you have the adjustment nuts shown in the video. At the other end by the throttle bodies are typically 2 10mm nuts, which secure the cable housing to the mount above the cam where the cable itself hooks. Often you can release the adjustment nut there all the way off of the housing and pull the cable out of the mount, giving yourself plenty of slack. I'll provide another option in second reply as well.
@Dareisay07 Sometimes it also helps to release the push cable first. After creating as much slack as possible with the adjusters, you can open the throttle all the way to create slack in the pus cable and use a curved pick to slip it off of the throttle tube housing. Often this will give you just enough clearance to then remove the other cable in the the same manner. It varies from bike to bike and there are loads of methods.
@Dareisay07 I'm assuming that you've already unscrewed and separated the housing surrounding the inside end of the throttle tube. If not, start there and then go to the other suggestions I've listed. If you're still having a problem, let me know.
Sorry for the delay in answering any questions or comments. The owners actually sold the shop and it took me some time to be able to access this page again in order to answer any questions or comments. If any of you have posted a questions that you still would like an answer to or some input on, please repost it or let me know.
ok so i have a problem. When I twist the throttle nothing happens until I twist it like half way down then it "catches" and takes off, what could be the problem & how can I fix this?
Thanks for this video, very informative and easy to follow. I'm new to biking and noticed some free play in my throttle today. You're the first vid I stumbled upon and after watching I now feel like I can do something about it.
Are you supposed to put lube between the throttle tube and handle bar? Or put lube down into the throttle cable? I ask b/c the throttle tube on my bike (99 Honda Magna) does not snap back like at 3:09. It only slowly goes back to idle position, even after I adjust the throttle cable correctly.

Thanks a bunch.
