Get MekTech, thats the closest to the real thing as they can make it. Also, if you play the Free-To-Play (FTP) MMO of the Battletech Universe (which is getting a CryTek 3 engine... I'm serious on that) with enough people, that MechWarrior game would come out. Blame Harmony Gold negotiations for stalling it a bit... and the poorer ratings of 3 and 4 and their attending expansion/spin-offs compared to 2 and 1 gave them cold feet...
If that was a Nova Cat that got his right arm partially hit @ 3:43, then the main guy in the Vulture has probably the biggest nerve I've ever seen! LOL XD
@MsGunMetal I'm still playing Mechwarrior 3, but I had to download RivaTuner v2.24 in order to make it work. Units are sometimes falling beneath the surface though, jumpjets don't work perfectly, but in total it works great. But I realized the texture, is windows pain(t), like.

@mistryeag1e probably because piloting a 'mech is a lot harder in real life than it is in the games, when you have more switches to toggle as well as the feedback loop from the neurohelmet, not to mention checking all of your display and the main viewer all at once - then there's the explosions going on around you and the fact that the 'mech's fusion reactor takes time to fully warm up before using many systems.
2:20 Why the hell did that guy not speed up his cougar? It was a fast mech and although he was already out of the hangar he was still moving at a slow throttle.

Why did she have to activate her anti-missile system? It should have been on be default, or she shouldda turned it on right after getting into the goddamn shadow cat.
If it were MY old lance, we'd have won that fight...I know that because we re-enacted it. My team (barely) won, zero casualties. We had to divide their fire focus but it worked.
What we have here is the worst Lance ever: Their light mechs that can't manage to go over 15kph. They lose half the lance to a vehicle based LRM launcher when it takes out the building. The AMS system was obviously faulty and she could not activate it... and Sig 2's armor must have been at .1 tons across the torso region. Finally there's Sigma Leader's laughable attempt at slowing the enemy down.
These fucks were palace guards because they were too inept for field duty.

The cockpit and missiles are thrust forward and a good shot can kill the pretty easily. The 'Cat also did not have CASE; the missiles hit exploded and destroyed the Mech.
I could have won this battle with that Vulture II. You just have to... you know... MOVE. Circle strafe works very well. So does running behind cover. Same thing with the Warhammer vs Atlas in the Mechwarrior 5 trailer. That Atlas was totally killable, if you had a competent pilot. Standing your ground against anything but something smaller and weaker than you is death in Mechwarrior. And sometimes you die even against the small and weak. Treat every Mech as if it's an Assault . You will survive.
For those who don't understand, the mechwarrior game(and video) depict portions of the FedCom Civil War. House Steiner-Davion were fighting Federated Commonwealth forces. Unfortunately for the person you play as in the game, you end up fighting Steiner forces. I hate Katherine, bitch, feel bad that the powerfullest empire( Lyran Commonwealth) had to be broken up.

@rhino2960 the dev team is not smith and tinker, but a team called piranha games(their game list is somewhat lame, combine that with the fact that this will not be an SP game and you can let me down big time). they will indeed follow the F2P model which is worrying(although they assured it wont be Pay to Win). so far all F2P games that i have played turned out to be grind fests. type mechwarrior online in google and go to the game's official website to find out more.

@VaultBoy88 they 'bother' with light weight 'mechs merely because they are faster and more agile than the 75 ton Summoner and 100 ton Dire Wolf - which means light class are able to perform stealth recon of possible targets, whereas heavier 'mechs are slower, more cumbersome and likely to be spotted and destroyed long before they reach the target.
If i have tons of cash i would first acquire IP rights from FASA, then help FASA on a settlement with Gold Harmony on the whole Robotech Destroid issue.
Then locate the studio who made this intro and allocate a huge ass budget to make a Mechwarrior feature length movie. Then hopefully FASA can get me someone who is a GURU in Battletech/Mechwarrior fluff to advice me.
The Movie will mainly be action heavy.. tons of mech combats but shallow in plot but its consistent with the fluff.
I still wish they made a MW game set in the Dark Age timeline. I know not alot of people liked the era but I thought it was a really interesting time period in the universe.
Microsoft fucked up alot of things, but the new Vulture was not one of them. I love how beefy and mean that thing looks, really industrial-looking compared to the original.

@Catman2030 It's called a critical hit to the ammo, and yes I know clan mechs have CASE free but from the look of how her mech went down, the vent ports where blocked hence - boom.
@Pierremur I agree with you there as that makes a lot of sense when you actually think about how fragile those 'Mechs truly are. The Shadow cat is a 45 ton Medium 'Mech protected by 7 tons of armor, to top it off the missile that took Sigma 2 down was a hit to the missile rack, which is totally unarmored from the start. An explosion in the launcher sets the loaded ammunition and *boom*, the exploding ordnance rips through unarmored portions of the internals, destroying the 'Mech.
Also the sloping and rounding might have to do with balistics, real world tanks like the russian tanks from the IS-3 onward used sloped rounding turrets, since they had better ballistic capabilities. It basically gives the enemy projectiles a worse penetration angle from more firing angles/direction. Also the rounding itself gives the structure more stability than a boxy shape, as they don´t have defined weakpoints, like the corners of a box shape.
So if there is force projected on a circular shape from any angle, the force will be lead and absorbed through the whole structure, not just the part that is hit and strain the fixtures overmuch. Programming wise the boxier shape was probably easier to programm, you needed less polygons, less graphical power.
@Chickenhunter22 First of all, she pilots a shadow cat and second, have you stopped to think that perhaps that is the 'mech she OWNS OR that is the 'mech she is best qualified to pilot?
Not ALL 'mechs are the same and each takes time to learn how to pilot - like different aircraft.
@Gallowell Yep if you´ll play MWLL you´ll learn that fast, as for example the Atlas is very hard to pilot well, not in small parts to it being a priority target number 1 a verry big 1. Still the Angel ECM is great, teammates love it. Every mech has its strengths and weaknesses, and i love the Shadow cat prime. Also the weapons are different, so you´ll need to adapt to each weapon configuration. And you can really mess up somebody´s day with a well piloted shadow cat.
@GangsterHutterite 1- how can you fight inside a hanger, when you have stored ammo sitting inside it, not to mention the rest of your lance still inside that you would need to shoot over (not practical).
2- AMS is a defensive weapon only. It doesn't need to be activated at all unless you really need it.
3- And how would Sigma leader put distance between himself and 3 enemy 'mechs that are all shooting at you at the same time?
1. Why would a fusion reactor need to "heat up"? Mech components run better cold.
2. Its 3060, I'm sure these things have gotten a little more reliable.
3. Why was he running at the enemy in the first place? He likely had passive sensors on, as the mechs didn't see him until he fired. He had the time to get behind cover or something.
4. This was an intro made by Microsoft for a Microsoft game, so this Vulture had ECM capabilities.

2- No electronics device is reliable, no matter what century you are in.
3-he was directly in front of the enemy - so one can only surmise that they didn't fire on him because one 'mech against 3 isn't much of a threat, and presumably one could say they only fired on him after he fired at them. - insufficient data to know just from the video.
@GangsterHutterite4- It's a Mad Dog, 'vulture' is simply the IS name for the OmniMech and Mad Dogs are not normally equipped with ECM systems - you find those primarily on the light-class of 'mechs (Raven, for example)

@LeftoverJedi No it's not. Most 'mechs have at least two different configurations, which changes the classification of a 'mech simply with Mad Dog A, B or Summoner A, A B, C etc. There is no name change whatsoever.
@LeftoverJedi Depends mostly on the mechwarrior's choice, but where the primary variant carries 2 LRM 20 and 4 (M) lasers, A config carries 2 (M) lasers, 2 SRM 6 and 1 LBX 20, B config can carry 2 AC20, 1 (L) Laser and 1 (S) Laser.
As I said, depends on the pilot, and also what the mission is to determine optimal firepower.

The Movie will mainly be action heavy.. tons of mech combats but shallow in plot but its consistent with the fluff.

@Pierremur I agree with you there as that makes a lot of sense when you actually think about how fragile those 'Mechs truly are. The Shadow cat is a 45 ton Medium 'Mech protected by 7 tons of armor, to top it off the missile that took Sigma 2 down was a hit to the missile rack, which is totally unarmored from the start. An explosion in the launcher sets the loaded ammunition and *boom*, the exploding ordnance rips through unarmored portions of the internals, destroying the 'Mech.

Also the sloping and rounding might have to do with balistics, real world tanks like the russian tanks from the IS-3 onward used sloped rounding turrets, since they had better ballistic capabilities. It basically gives the enemy projectiles a worse penetration angle from more firing angles/direction. Also the rounding itself gives the structure more stability than a boxy shape, as they don´t have defined weakpoints, like the corners of a box shape.

So if there is force projected on a circular shape from any angle, the force will be lead and absorbed through the whole structure, not just the part that is hit and strain the fixtures overmuch. Programming wise the boxier shape was probably easier to programm, you needed less polygons, less graphical power.

Not ALL 'mechs are the same and each takes time to learn how to pilot - like different aircraft.

@Gallowell Yep if you´ll play MWLL you´ll learn that fast, as for example the Atlas is very hard to pilot well, not in small parts to it being a priority target number 1 a verry big 1. Still the Angel ECM is great, teammates love it. Every mech has its strengths and weaknesses, and i love the Shadow cat prime. Also the weapons are different, so you´ll need to adapt to each weapon configuration. And you can really mess up somebody´s day with a well piloted shadow cat.

3. Leader was too close to use LRM's which is his only great weapon
4. He should have used his ECM to get behind enemy mechs

@GangsterHutterite 1- how can you fight inside a hanger, when you have stored ammo sitting inside it, not to mention the rest of your lance still inside that you would need to shoot over (not practical).
2- AMS is a defensive weapon only. It doesn't need to be activated at all unless you really need it.
3- And how would Sigma leader put distance between himself and 3 enemy 'mechs that are all shooting at you at the same time?
4 - Mad Dogs don't carry ECM.
5- Ejecting doesn't mean you will live

2- AMS while being defensive in purpose do not always work. They are prone to malfunctions like anything else.
3- again, how can he retreat with 3 enemy 'mechs firing on himat once and crippling his 'mechs leg in the first attack
4- MW4 is a game - real life 'mech combat differs somewhat.
5- Not if your pod is shot out of the sky or you land among enemy troops

1. Why would a fusion reactor need to "heat up"? Mech components run better cold.
2. Its 3060, I'm sure these things have gotten a little more reliable.
3. Why was he running at the enemy in the first place? He likely had passive sensors on, as the mechs didn't see him until he fired. He had the time to get behind cover or something.
4. This was an intro made by Microsoft for a Microsoft game, so this Vulture had ECM capabilities.

2- No electronics device is reliable, no matter what century you are in.
3-he was directly in front of the enemy - so one can only surmise that they didn't fire on him because one 'mech against 3 isn't much of a threat, and presumably one could say they only fired on him after he fired at them. - insufficient data to know just from the video.

@GangsterHutterite4- It's a Mad Dog, 'vulture' is simply the IS name for the OmniMech and Mad Dogs are not normally equipped with ECM systems - you find those primarily on the light-class of 'mechs (Raven, for example)
5-Perhaps he wanted to die fighting? His home destroyed, his mission to protect the Palace failed...

The original Mad Dog looks cool, but it looks terribly impractical. It looks hard to manufacture do to the use of curves as opposed to slabs of ferro-fibrous. This Vulture looks like realistic and practical design, capable of carrying 240 missiles.

@LeftoverJedi Depends mostly on the mechwarrior's choice, but where the primary variant carries 2 LRM 20 and 4 (M) lasers, A config carries 2 (M) lasers, 2 SRM 6 and 1 LBX 20, B config can carry 2 AC20, 1 (L) Laser and 1 (S) Laser.
As I said, depends on the pilot, and also what the mission is to determine optimal firepower.
