  • Yeaaa ooooh hoooooh

  • Haha, yeah, confusing right. New Order started in the 80's, they returned in 1998 and finished again in 2007. This is their 2001 track. Wikipedia:

"The video, directed by Johan Renck (otherwise known as Stakka Bo) does not feature New Order; instead, it depicts a younger band miming to New Order's music and words."

  • @IcyGamma Don't forget the fact that before this they were all in the Punk band Joy Division, and helped get gothic rock started. New Order was unfortunately started in the midst of tragedy, as it was started after the suicide of Ian Curtis.

  • @angel5654 Angel, new order are the band in the live performance hahaha, the video they stated in an interview was just something they couldn't be bothered doing so they got a bunch of kids to do it for them :) new order 101 haha

  • My favorite tune by New Order. The bass is surreal.

  • isto e que e musica pah.....

  • Really, I find the compliments towards Peter Hook a bit condescending. If he was doing the same thing on a guitar, you'd pay no notice. You're effectively saying "he's good, for a bass player...". It's akin to saying a runner in the Special Olympics "runs really fast, for a cripple...". As much as I love New Order, it's not because of Peter Hook's "amazing playing". He's somewhat competent at best.

  • @deutscherjoel bollocks... he may have split the band, which i can't stand him for, but you can't knock him for being a somewhat unconventional bass-god. Look at how his style is copied, most recent I heard was the Xx.

  • @burtr It's a simple single-note line, and not even rapidly played. Even by "bassist standards" it's incredibly basic. Compare him to Flea, or Tom Drummond, or Lou Barlow...all comtemporaries of him, and all vastly more proficient.

I stand by my original post. New Order was great, and Peter Hook played a vital role in that greatness...but to call him a "great bassist" is ridiculous at best and insulting at worst.

  • @deutscherjoel You know, comparing Hook to Flea is like comparing a pianist to to a violinist... Because they play so differently, even though it's the same instrument.

I do agree, Hook's basslines are very easy even for a mediocre bass player, but it's not the difficulty which makes Hook such an acclaimed bassist ( like how it goes for Flea), it's that his basslines are very melodic and very rhythmic, sounding awesome even if they're minimalistic.

  • @deutscherjoel And, in the end, this is what the bass is all about. Hammering the rhythm and reinforcing the melody. Both Flea and Hook do their job very good, but very differently.

Out of them, of course, I'd pick Flea as being the better one, but I'd take Hook's melodic sense anytime.

  • Manchester <3

  • Peter Hook.....greatest bassist ever

He does things with that instrument I've never seen any other man or woman do

  • What happened to bands like this? I miss musicians who are worthy of the title. It's hard to believe that the things people listen to now days is passing as music. lol

  • @beanner17 LCD soundsystem, crystal castles, the xx, the drums, the killers are all doing a pretty good job

  • @beanner17 My dad says the same thing

  • Hooky's Eccleshall is a monster. Just bought the poor man's version: an Aria pro TAB-66 semi-acoustic. A hit with the ladies, for sure!

  • Hooky's guitar is like big, hard dick and he plays with him

  • הוא רוקד כמו ערס במסיבת טראנס

  • AMAZING!

  • I think Barney and Hooky love each other so much they think they hate each other.

  • @HeroesRHard2Find Interesting perspective. Thank you!

  • fuckin brill ,thanks

  • Anyone know what that woman is doing the background vocals? She is amazing!!

  • Fuck this is awesome

  • 3:05 best stage move ever!!

    He is awesome!

  • why did bernie not get singing lessons all these years? aaaargh 'ooky has a better voice as in 'Dreams Never End'

  • 'Why didn't he have singing lessons' ?

Because it would have fucked up the raw edge and angst in his voice. Look for the live version of Age of Consent for example of this

  • Salford Rules!

  • geilstes lied ever!

  • How cool do these guys look, and they're all over 50...puts most of today's bands to shame. Hooky is a god of bass, this is one of his best solos

  • Awesome...you can tell straight away that these guys have influenced so many bands it's ridiculous. Bass line is brilliant..."i don't know what to say..." "You shock me to the core........

  • The thing I most notice about this song is the feeling of "hunger" it leaves me when it ends. I can't listen to it and when it's ending, think like "Ok, now loop to the start!". Totally mental, alright, but it's the real deal! Can't stop listening to it...

  • mitelusmorion,

Wow - That's funny - I do the same thing & sometimes hit it 3 or 4 times!

This is the absolute KILLER version to me, too.

  • i see what you did there (:

  • search for the finsbury park version, june 9th. better than this imo

  • Hey Thanks hurtsdale - Loved it!

Great version. Great sound. Great footage.

Still like this version slightly better, but it's all good!

    CHEERS!

  • MASTERWORK!!!

  • peter hook = genious....one of the best bass players of all time...he write such simple stuff that just sounds outstanding...shadowplay for example...3 notes, but wtf gives the creepiest darkest sounding bass line iv ever herd!!! aaagh i love him!

  • this is the song... like joy division in good times...

  • je vois pas en quoi ça ressemble à du Joy Divison...

  • vaya temazo joder!

  • "i used to love this song , then i swtiched to linkin park"...same here man, .. i still love this song ... but i'm not very much in to the new linkin park stile...:(...hope thei cahnge it in to something better for me..:)) i'm selfish

  • Great song!

  • this gives me goosebumps as do most joy division songs...

    love it <3

  • JOY DIVISION , and NEW ORDER l have always liked very good indeed

  • Wow, what a performance. That keyboard hits me every time. And watching Peter Hook go off, spectatcular.

  • flawless, it has been almost 8 years since I first heard this and it still gives me goosebumps when the guitars and drums kicks in after the beautiful backing vocals.

  • i used to love this song when i was 12. then i swtiched to linkin park. what the hell went wrong there? [i love it again btw]

  • @teoferrazzi everybody has their bad moments ;)

  • Ahhh I Love New Order!! XD

  • Best New order song ever. :-)

  • Punks Oldie mensss!!!! marvelousss

  • Great song ! thanks!

  • New Order are awesome.

Hooky is cool and Barney is always bouncy...

  • Barney has not always been bouncy, he only started to dance weirdly in 2001. If you look at live clips of Barney in the '80s, his movements on stage were completely different and in the early '80s he barely moved at all. Worse, during his Joy Division days, Barney hardly ever looked forward. As for Hooky, he used to give his back to the crowd for a long period of time during gigs.

  • Who is the backup singer? I love the way she moves!! It's soothing, super sexy, amazigly graceful.

I hope one day I meet a woman like her!

  • the woman you meet in the dark streets in your dreams.. amazin.. good to see new order still kickin out, amazin band, however the man Ian Curtis is deeply missed

  • backing vocalist is Dawn Zee

  • @gmtx12 Gotta love her clothes!

  • the reverb and synthesizer are what they are missing in this video. the live sounds more like a country rock rather than a new wave song.

  • THIS COULD BE JOY DIVISION T_T

  • Such a shame theres no echo in his voice in this one, i think the effects make this song so much bigger. Someone shoot the engineers.

  • Love the dance moves

  • Perfect:)

  • theys guys can rock everyone and bust their heads.THEY RULE

  • Dunno where, but I heard. News anyone ?

  • I heard they quit ?

  • Did they? When? How did you hear?

  • err well the internet knows everything! look it was 27 years they gave us...let them retire!

  • shut me to the core with this rage

  • 'Later' really does have the best live bands on, dont they?

  • yes

  • totally agreee with u this is a great song

  • This > Studio.

  • unbelievable how they still rock...

    damn!!

  • There's no music and no artists as good as those from the New Wave!!!

  • Get Ready

  • Love this live version. Damn . . . Like this better than studio version, thanks nfiles

  • Haha, sounds like Hooky came in too early :)

Awesome band, hope I one day get to see them live... ^_^

  • we covered this song on our myspace.

    myspace / thegardenangels

  • check out barneys kick at 3:05 lol

  • lol incredible!!! he kicked like the cows

  • comme est-ce que nous pouvons tuer quelqu'un sans peligro ni preocupaciones de nada... incluso repetidamente. wat does this mean ... i got, like the killing something bit???

  • WTF with the extrange sound almost at the end of the song? I'm afraid that could be some kind of message... to fuck'up minds with dutys to follow. Just as this message that shows you comme est-ce que nous pouvons tuer quelqu'un sans peligro ni preocupaciones de nada... incluso repetidamente.

  • irony's not lost on you, is it!

  • ian is dead ,,,,,

  • The irony is that killig joke stole that song "80s" from joy divisions "ice age", and as killing joke had no money -they were never sued. Its is so blatant I always wonder why its not mentioned.

  • Lol what...hahaha..seriously!? wow.

  • great live version

  • Yeah, I also noticed that (about the length).

As for Kurt Cobain being influenced by Joy Division, I could imagine he was (as was said, "lyrically."

Kurt got sued by Killing Joke for "Come As You Are," and even admitted he admired KJ...

Why he was sued is beyond me...Shouldn't KJ just taken that as a compliment?

  • new order hated each other ages ago, i dont see why peter decided to leave now...you may aswell suck it up and maintain the chemistry...it just doesnt make sence to me...if the stones can do it then so can new order...i guess im just hopeful of being able to see them play one day

  • this video has to be the longest video i had ever seen on youtube...

  • same here...

  • The actual video is 4'41" long, but the file itself says it's 11 hours because it's corrupted.

  • could well turn out to be their last big single hit...ironically maybe their best song

  • I hardly think that New Order copied anything from Nirvana considering that New Order came way before Nirnava.

I think your timetable is a little off.

  • Yeah, except that this song was written/recorded about 10 years after Nevermind came out. I'm not saying anyone ripped off anyone, but they could definitely have been influenced by the sound of "Come As You Are". Which would be cool, considering Kurt was definitely influenced by Ian Curtis lyrically.

  • why 11 hours?

  • Apparently the video is 665 minutes long

  • 11 fuckin hours

  • bernard

  • man i love this song

    sux about new order tho.

the bassist i think its peter hook or something

split from the band but theyre still going on

  • I love this tune

  • awesom

  • About the original video of this song......its a great video, a great song.. and totally a great tribute from New Order to their own beninings...Yes..to Joy Division!!!, Look the fake singer,(from original video) dancing and singing like Ian Curtis, hear the bass, the guitar and drummss...its Joy whit Order... Enjoy that amazing song!!!

  • err are u implying that ian curtis was a fake singer??????

  • umm... new order was around LONG before nirvana. So I would say nirvana bass is reminiscent of Peter Hook.

  • can hear some of the tones in the first bass solo that made me think of "come as you are" ...but, as for the 'style' comment...well...i agree with the others. that has always been one of their distinguishing characteristics...peter playing high on the neck...can smell it all the way from the JD days.

  • just gotta say i,ve just been on the web site and it looks like a split is on the cards, fuckin hope not, it,d be a real shame. long live N O

  • yhis song was in a movie 3 blind mice, coool:)

  • the film clip was just a mock-up,it wasnt the band at all, maybe they did it coz they think they look old lol, dunno

  • where's the blonde woman?

  • Awesome. Best pop song of the 2000s. I luvs it.

We're like Crystal. It's not easy with your love.

  • the bass solo... orgasm!

  • best NO song with Temptation

  • we're like crystal, we break easy...... IDOLI

  • Wow... I've been a fan of New Order for 20 years, and Get Ready is my favorite album of theirs, with this as one of many great tracks. I saw them way the hell back when they toured with the Sugarcubes and (I think) Public Image Limited. They were boring in comparison to this. It's great to see them making great music AND rocking out.

    The backing singer is fantastic.

  • Yeah, I couldn't believe my ears when I heard Get Ready, I thought it would be good but I didn't expect to actually be the best one yet, truly amazing. Saw them live a few times recently and Crystal always gets me jumping about like mad. Classic tune!

  • "Way back in 1989 ?" Where were you for the NINE YEARS previously?

They were a MUCH better band then than they are NOW, and as for 'rocking out' ? ... PLEEASE ...

    SPOT THE AMERICAN!

  • Innovators ... in so many ways ... re-invented themselves so many times. Saw them in Toronto 1985 and 1987!

  • such a beasting track. love hooky's basslines

  • grew up listening to new order in the 80's.. one of the best bands in the 80's... saw them in 1988 jones beach concert with depeche mode..

  • New Order only did a total of 7 gigs in 1988 and NONE of which took place in the USA.

  • great song..

  • That they can still make this good music!!!

  • Superb

  • Awesome song. I understand "Republic" wasn't well received but it is still my favorite New Order album. (Yes, I know Crystal is not on that album).

  • great!they a ot oldman then!

  • New Order rules... and Hooky kicks...

  • I like metall but this is ok... like the Guitarrs but not the singer... can understand why ppl like this... bu cant understand ppl that like 50 cent and stuff like that

  • Awesome! Best ever! You need to see this live in a venue where they have the sound up loud! Hooky rocks! Barney can handle the lyrics, Phil is a great addition to the band and the metronome Morris is outstanding. I disagree with above comments, I thought the Backing singe Dawn Zee added a nice touch to the record...

  • That's Phil Cunningham. He took over after Gillian left to take care of her and Stephen Morris' family.

  • who is the extra guy they have helping on keyboard and guitar?

  • Thought the gig at the Civic was one of the best I've ever been to!

  • IM SEEING THESE DUDES TOMORROW!! well techniacally today cuz its after 12

  • I was at the recording of this show (stood on the podium to the right of Hooky) and although they opened with it, they had to re-record this song twice. This version is the last song of a very long night! That's why it goes a bit mental at the end and Barney is all twitchy. Great performance though!

  • never thought the idea of a backing singer for this song was necessary. remove her, add a bit of a more aggressive guitar and you would have crystal 3.0 (being 1.0 the one with barney singing for cybersecrecy almost the same lyrics) and it would be the best song ever!

  • get a new backing singer

  • they´re great

  • classic tune!

  • best new order single ever
