@cooliobrando That is what the emperor looked like in the original theatrical version of the movie in 1980, before return of the jedi came out. In return of the jedi the emperor was cast with Ian McDiarmid. In the special edition this scene was re-edited with Ian McDiarmid for consistency. Apparently the emperor we see here in 1980 was an un-credited woman, with monkey eyes superimposed over the actresses eyes, and voiced by Clive Revill. So dont watch the special edition, theatrical only!

One thing about this ad. When it first played, it was about 20 seconds longer with a few more lines from Dath Vader. When ordered to get the battery, he replied, "All too easy." Then as he was 'fighting' the bunny, the bunny dodged a light saber attack and Vader remarked, "Impressive." They only aired it a few times and then played this shorter one.

In Empire Strikes Back, they wanted to simply make Palpatine look disturbing, so they filmed an old woman in robes and superimposed a chimpanzee's eyes over the woman.

When they put this out, a few years before Episode 1, you couldnt help but notice a how they had improved the lightsaber effect by having its reflection in Vaders helmut. It made one think about how cool future Star Wars could look. But unfortunately this ad was more cool than Episode 1 or 2! And Vader was better than the overgrown baby in Ep 3!

fantastic commercial. Lucas was full of it when he said he didn't have the technology necessary to make more Star Wars movies at the time. This commercial looks great and so did the CGI in Jurassic Park which came out in 1993. Maybe if he had some limitations his prequels wouldn't have been sucky live action cartoons. This commercial gave me so much hope for them!
