  • Astounding composition skills man, and of course amazingly performed. That guitar + your fingers = eargasm

  • Wow, fantastic player. I'm Fan :-)

  • Somewhere in the world, Fats Domino just shushed the room he's in and said "You guys hear that? Man that's jivin'!"

  • i knew this from Lee Ritenour's "6 strings theory" album. It features established guitarist of all time like BB King, Lee Ritenour, Slash, John Schofield, even George Benson, and upcoming ones like Andy Mckee, Guthrie Govan and Joe Robinson. A must hear for guitar lovers !

  • How am I JUST NOW finding this kid?!?!?! Freaking insane!

  • Joe, you're not supposed to be that good until you're 50!

  • I want to watch someone play the version from 6 string theory!

  • @gisoid If you mean the album collaborated in the song your looking for is "It's not easy""

  • damn man!!

  • oh shit..

  • he makes this look so easy!!!! problem is that it isnt :P

  • wtf is this real bow down in the preasance of the guitar GOD! i think i just cum :P

  • 7 people would rather watch Justin Bieber "play" drums.

  • hay quá .

  • this is guitar porn. right here. Hell Yes

  • 7 people dont know how to spell guittar

  • @musicsmydestiny that was kinda fail :P

  • @musicsmydestiny and you're one of them. :p

  • Ooh my god. YOURE FUCKING AWESOME!!! pls TEACH MEEE :')

  • Hey Joe, do u/have u ever suffered from tendonitis, carpel tunnel or any kind of arm/wrist/finger type of problems, cause i play for acouple of hours a day and am quite worried about these kinds of injuries, seeing as i want to be a pro guitarist when in the future.... thanks for your reply

  • @Christophanus I may not be Joe but I can offer you my input. Usually things like that only happen if you play with bad technique. SOmetimes they happen anyways, but if you play with comfortably/with good technique then you'll be good

  • @emoguy88888 thanks man

  • I;m buying Guitar World just so I can read your column

  • Nice dude!!!

  • Actually youir both wrong, he's been playing since he was 10. He actually star5ted playing piano when he was six because he was told his fingers were too small for guitar...

  • @rokkerdude8 You'd think it'd be harder to play piano with small fingers, no???

  • do you have any albums out yet? i want one

  • wow ur an incredibly talented musician and i know that this song is probably just for fun but that last run was a bit silly :)

  • 6 people can't even play an Em chord.

  • @theparanoidandroid16

Em is hard. They can't play an Em7 :))

  • @tudorcarare nah that's still to hard, they can't play an A7sus4 :P

  • I love your sound! you are very talented and i look forward to buying one of your albums someday!!!

  • This guy has talent, and he's good. But I think people get too worked up about these "guitar prodigys". You'll watch maybe a few videos and forget about them. If you truly like them so much, go out and buy their albums and stuff.

  • hey man, this has probably already been asked, but what open tunings do you use?

  • Actually he's been playing since he was 12...

  • i bet candyrat will try to pick this guy up if they haven't already

  • @scolemanize Naw Candyrat won't try and pick this guy up. He plays in standard tuning.

  • @HighTheMemory : Gareth Pearson plays in standard tuning .. mostly

  • hey joe, how long you been playing? i know your like 18, im 16 and i been playing 3 years, no way could i play even a few seconds of this. your a guitar god and i think you deffo have talent.

  • @gamemaster79

He has been playing his whole life

  • Hey Joe, I play piano and have just started up guitar a year ago and now I play acoustic. I tried fingerpicking with the thumb picks but I just don't feel comfortable playing it like that. Can I play like this with just my bare thumb or do I need a thumb pick?

  • Also anyone know what guitar this is? Its beaut!

  • @WillSG400 the headstock clearly reads "Maton"

  • @gibderfenson I could see that, i was wondering what model

  • Ive got a rough version of the melody of the first pat just need to get the bass line to it :) if you could do some videos on how to play this is if you can, the gremlin, you would be even more amazing;) aha but a lesson would be most appreciated if you could :P

  • @WillSG400 the bass line for the melody goes open E, G (3rd fret E string), A(5th fret E string), then A A#/Bb, B (quarter note triplet) then back to the open E where the pattern starts again! Happy playing, it's quite fun :)

  • @sywalker456 Ah I got that :) i was trying to work it into the melody, all sorted now :D but thank youuuu

  • nicely separated soprano(volume)! good work :)

  • You should definately sell a book with all your music in it, everybody would buy it, plus im never going to able to play figure that out by myself

  • Hey joe :) I'm pannin to buy an acoustic, what would u reccomend?

  • I really like this song Joe!!

    You're amazing!!! :D

  • Hey Joe,

Just wondering how you get such blistering little leads with the thumbpick? It just feels clumsy with me. Do you file yours down at all?

    Thanks,

P.S the wee percussive groove at the beggining of this piece is TASTY.

  • Why doesn't my guitar do that?!

  • Oh my god, that thumb fretting. This is like my 25th time watching the video and I only just figured out that you were using your thumb there. This song just got 10 times harder.

  • Funny name for a song but an amazing piece!

  • damn man.. u r brilliant ! awesome, you'll be better than tommy emmanuel one day, i'm sure !

    i'm so lost for words...

    greetings from Germany(: !

  • This is like Jason Becker compared to Eddie Van Halen. Epigon. The technique is flawless, of course.

  • awesome player, stupid camera man.

  • nice job working the bass and melody together :)

you're going to be even more ridiculous as you get older :D

  • Hey I saw you play last night opening for Kaki king. You were totally rad. You should come up to Boston more often.

  • Awesome writing kid!

  • @theparanoidballion1 So did I. He's absolutely amazing.

  • lol, did they get the name of the song on the album ^ String Theory wrong, or did they just shorten the song....

  • @ImaFez they got it wrong on the six string theory.

the song he plays there is actually called Its Not Easy.

  • wow... I heard you on the album 6 string theory. but when i saw this video, i didn't expect it was such a young guy!

  • jealus of the lenght of his fingers.

  • @billbocate I call it...Envious spread syndrome.. I have it too !

  • @illuminoacey that need a certain strenght too, and long fingers ,and practice...

    ok i 'm back..tomorrow ! ;)

  • hey Joe, you play a mean guitar man!

  • divino

  • Hi Joe

I've booked to come to your workshop in Taree on 14 January. But I'm not sure what to expect. Will you be demonstrating technique or discussing things? What should I be expecting? Looking forward to it. Mark.

    Matt

  • this is incredible

  • da kid got talent. keep grovin M8

  • what genere of music would this be considered?

  • Rlly makes me sick to see how well you play that guitar. 7b ppl in the world with around 150m who play the guitar, 40m of those who play it often, around 4m who are rlly good and around 150000 who are exceptional.

you my friend wud easily make the top 1000 and by 30yrs old should be in the top 100.

I watched u perform on oz got talent n it was nuts how well you handled urself.

Come to ireland so i can watch you play. Id make sure you sell out one of our theatres no problem. Well done man :)

  • @twkm05 that made no sense

  • @AgentZeroForTheWin

You are clearly retarded if you didnt understand that. I was stating how gud he is and where he stands in terms of the earths population of guitar pros. I reread what i said and its self explanatory. Im sorry you cant comprehend the abbreviated english. Dumbass

  • @twkm05 Gentle, good sir, gentle.

  • hey joe, amazing playing!!!

can you please help with how can i teach my self to play that style and where to find stuff that will help me??? thanks and keep up the great work!!!

  • as Guitarnoize, I noted the very similar to Tommy Emmanuel style

  • I just heard your track on the 6 String Theory album, I assumed it was Tommy Emmanuel until i looked at the liner notes!! Incredible.

  • I remember when you did this song at Camp Electric, you're really great. I enjoyed when you Mr. Harris and Mr. Hill all performed for the bass players that was really cool. Keep up the awesome work.

  • I want everyone to know that the people that hit the dislike button are the people that got mad cuz they THOUGHT they were good cuz they can bend a stinkin note like they were EVH or something....And now this guy's videos got 'em all thinkin' twice about career plans bahahahah. SMOKIN' JOE ROBINSON KICKS ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I was to a concert with you with my music-school and you played this number and lots of others but i really love this!!

  • love this one! you're really great!! i hoe you can come here in the philippines.. :D

  • Dude awesome stuff ! I saw you a while ago in ""Got Talent"" show. I play guitar for around 5-6 years, and have never seen something like this.

I play blues, and am starting with slide blues, but i can find good books.

I thought about playing like that before (bass and a melody at the same time), but it got too confusing. But you've mastered it !!

Keep up the good work !!

  • THIS KID IS THE WORST GUITAR PLAYER I HAVE EVER SEEN. PURELY AMATEUR AND FAKE AND WORTHLESS SHITTY TALENT... and im lying :)))))

  • I love this song...your style O__O...I hope, you´ll come to Germany ;-)

  • BIG FAN!

  • That sounds like Drac and friends.Just great.

  • This video deserves more views!!

  • I just smile when I watch this. So awsome.

  • wow ive moved on to electric but of course it takes one of your videos to drag me back to the old acoustic. and tommorow i'm headin down to guitar center and buying some thumb picks. and im writing away!. great playing Mr. Robinson!!! best of wishes to you

  • More please!

  • Im just impressed someone so young knows who Jerry Reed was! You are a gifted one - probably a prodigy. I think you will always make a living playing guitar.

  • This has inspired my awe, well done, I'm super happy for you, seem to be enjoying yourself.

    What tuning was this?

  • go to a city and play on the sidewalk or in a park for a Saturday afternoon - you'll probably make a good amount of money, and people will think you're interesting (which you undoubtedly are.)

  • Obviously a big fan of Tommy Emmanuel - this song has a lot of Tommy in it. And of course, you can't overlook the Maton guitar, either. ;) Nice work, Joe! Excellently executed!

  • Hey how long have uve been playing mate?

  • Hey Joe! great playing you've inspired me to become an acoustic player now! you are so talented! but i want to know just to get started what thumb picks do you use? All the best! :)

    Tom

  • @tommie997 thanks man! i use dunlop mediums... :) happy playing, mate!!!

  • @7680joe hey man I'm a musician two, but I play a slightly different instrument. I am a piper, and I think it'd be interesting to see you try and play a bagpipe tune on the guitar, this is rather difficult with the grace notes and all. (ignore those, they will sound horible on the guitar) But try to play a tune like "Pumpkins fancy" or "the masons apron" I'm subbed for now. I'll check back later.

  • @MatrixMasta2009 grace notes never sound good on any instrument. Unless of course you play it good. In that case it sounds good. On any instrument.

  • @DeadEndLeadGTR what are you talking about? grace notes are faster than 32nd notes, if he tried those on the guitar his fingers would bleed out.

  • wow, awesome doude!

  • absolutely love this! THANKS FOR ALL YOUR POSTS JOE! God Bless Ya and keep blessing us plz k?

  • kocham cie!!!!:*:*

  • such good technique

  • i'm enjoying the fact that he's so in to the song... you can see it in his face!! he has the same charisma that David Gilmour also has...

  • Yeah Joe, sorry the late answer...;)

Thanx for the amazing comment and the props!

Of course let´s do a duo one day and have a jam.

Let me know when you´re comming to Germany.

  • you are sooooo good!!

    it's your best song i think !

I wanted that I had the Tabs

    From Holland

  • Jerry is "smilin-down" - no doubt.

  • Right up there in Doyle Dykes' league for satisfying guitar instrumentals and like his tunes you can listen again and again without getting bored.

  • Instant fan . I'll be watching you for years to come

  • I just discovered you here on youtube. Wow! I am very impressed. This is a great guitar song. Keep up the fine work.

  • your future consists in guitar-playing...keep doing it...do it professionally

  • he already does:D saw him play before, and with tommy emmanuel, so astonishing!

  • Sounds like something Stanley Jordan would write. Terrific!

  • this guy plays bass and the lead... this guy must be rich

  • Dude, where can I get the tab for this song?

    It is very cool!

  • one can easily see that it's much fun to you to play this :)

  • hey joe what you going to do with that guitar in you hand ---dont kill your old lady--ha ha ha M.D. cox

  • It's like Tommy Emmanuel gave birth with no women involved... WONDERFUL playing!

  • Very admirably. I also play the guitar and, hence, I am possibly even more impressed by your skills than somebody who does not play.

However, what is frustrating me a little bit is the fact, that we are nearly same-old and you are so much better. -_-

    Anyway, keep playing! :)

    Greetings from Germany

  • its because he is American! haha! just kidding. keep practicing my friend you will get there.

  • Ähm ... he is an Australian like Tommy Emmanuel. Anyway, of course I will keep practicing. :)

  • I'd say you 'd even impress Mr. guitar and the claw with that. Great Job man

  • how do you not get more recognition?

  • Champion!

  • Nice, sounds so western theme'd xD

  • i love this !! :D

do you think you could do some video lessons for your song cause they are hard to learn :P !

  • This is a great song! Brilliant!

  • what's the name of these music stile

  • The style is basically chet atkins style picking using the thumb to create the alternating bass pattern and the first two fingers to create the melody on top. Along with this Joe adds in runs and riffs using the thumbpick as a plectrum. He also intersperses this with fast flowing fingerpicked runs with thumb and two fingers using open and fretted strings in banjo roll style. I hope that explains it. Basically the music is fingerstyle acoustic steel guitar.
