  • i remember this song

  • for draft dodgers

  • yes great bass line

  • Fun song to play on the bass. I'm a bassist. Graduated from high school when this song came out. A lot of good music from Canada.

  • Great Song and I know good music

  • i love that rythym

  • You've been absolutely great you've been greaaat allll along you are absolutely great they're wrong..

  • ABSOLUTELY GREAT !!!

  • i didn't know they were canadian til recently, very nice very nice

  • @johnplayerspecial88 - you didn't have to leave the Valley, you just had to cross the river to Hull.

5 Man in Toronto on August 13, 2011 at 8:30pm for the Lakeshore Mardi Gras at Col. Samuel Smith Park. Woo hoo

  • I think there may be an error on the lyrics for this this song. Most sites state, "Come Supper Time". Emerson appears to say, "The Moon Comes Up On Time". Sounds to me like others error exist for other song lyrics as well. As to "Sweet Home Alabama" States to me as, Ma, Pop, Always Has The Answer". Not, Something..Alabama" as the ending few words in that song. Sorry to get off topic.

  • @amyath excuse the others error issue.

  • Kick ass Great band,Emmerson is an under-rated genuis,as his is band mates.

  • Just love this song!! I sing the chorus to my husband all the time. Great Canadian band, like the Guess Who, and Bachman Turner Overdrive! Happy Birthday Canada!

  • R U kidding me?! 5 Man Electrical is Canadian? Awesome, and luv their music!

  • @snowy16100

yup, the drummer is my father. most of the band is spread between ottawa and toronto ontario.

  • @johnplayerspecial88 Ottawa and Toronto? Can't relate to the Toronto of the 70's...but Ottawa's a different story. Ottawa was great, but all the sidewalks rolled-up after 11 p.m.... you had to venture out to the Ottawa valley for some great times, and great tunes. Now can you tell us more about the lead singer of 5 man? I mean, the whole band was good, but I've oftened wondered who the voice was, behind the music....

  • awesome

  • This goes back to a time before Nickelback, Avril Lavigne, and Justin Bieber; back to a time when Canadian music was performed by talented musicians that created incredible music.

  • @thehoeks Please. There was crappy Canadian pop music back then, and there's great Canadian music today. Nothing's changed, it's just rose-coloured glasses.

  • Heard this song on the radio today ! One of my all time favorites ! Nice to see this video I think I'll go look for some more !

  • The best Band ever! Where are they now in a decade where everything sounds the same?

  • I've said this before on YT... But I'm so happy I got to meet and even WORK with the drummer of this great Canadian band! Talking with mike about the music scene at the time was just fantastic, not to mention the insight into the meaning of this song!

  • This song is fxxking awesome. Always reminds me of myself In my youth, Sorry Kimberley. You were absolutely right, I was wrong.

  • Scary-lookin dudes... but they don't make it like this anymore!

  • 5 guys playing. 5 guys singing. 5 guys telling their woman "You're right and I'm wrong." Cool song, Under-rated Canadian band.

  • Cool stuff! Few performers want to share that much of themselves in today's music. Too much production and not enough music today.

  • SING ABOUT SIGNS!

  • Bacon!

  • Ahhh yes, real music that no artist today could ever imagine.

  • Five lead singers can't be wrong.

  • Hey people. People dressed for comfort and not just style. If you think $5 for a sweater was cheap then. Wrong. Minimum wage was $1.65 an hour. Clothes prices seemed cheaper but no different than today. People just dressed formal and more neater in a sense. Today people don't care about their appearance much. Some didn't then too. I always liked fashions and styles from those days. I wore them when I was young.

  • I have this argument with the wife all the time

  • i didn't realize that these guys sang this song. i know the song well. i have rediscovered the band. they always do good video clips.

  • not the pretty band, but they kick ass.tight as a drum good vocals and blazing instruments. nice tune lads. hello from victoria, bc.canada

  • You all need to look past the US and the UK. Canada gave us all some kick ass music.

  • Yeah ... today we get that idiot @@@hole Bubbles ... while back then they had this great band and great music ...

  • great vid---thanks for posting

love the outfits and glasses----soooo70-s -- high school years--any live video of Signs from the 70's?

  • Getty Lee??!! WTF? Stay off the drugs...

  • such a good band

  • this song really rocks, love the way they finish off, perfect. far cry from the trash thats out in the 2000 s. good show lads.

  • Wore out this 45 back in the day. The rhythm guitar on the record was this killer acoustic folkin' fast tempo thing. Like a lot of songs from that era, this one has a great social message. Curiously liberating to hear from a male point of view, LOL.

  • I really love this band, awesome vid

    blue xoxo

  • Maybe it's just me, but I think "Absolutely Right" is far superior to The Five Man Electrical Band's other (but higher charting) major hit, "Signs." "Signs" debuted in March 1971 and peaked at #5 in the U.S. "Absolutely Right" arrived that October and peaked at #26.

  • Great tune!

  • the problem with music nowadays is that its not like this.. :) this is the best kind of music right here.

  • you are absolutely right

  • S'at gregg allman on bass? Looks pretty sick

  • I would love to see these guys once!!

    André Gerow

    Kingston Ontario

  • superb!

  • Great song!!!!

  • seeing them tonight @ The Peach Festival; in Winona Yaaa Hoooo...Good Times Rock & Roll :)

  • Is that Bubbles from the Trailer Park Boys on conga?

  • no that's not bubbles it's David Patrick Kelly

  • no actually I've just been infoemed by my associates that is is in fact Geddy Lee

  • great song ... almost forgot this one, besides "Signs" - thanks for the post.

  • My only complaint with this song is... MORE COWBELL!

  • Exactly....I've got a fever! And the only cure is....more cowbell!

  • That was excellent, wow.

Great energy...and all 5 sang? Truly rare.

    Good group, good musicians.

  • Absolutely cool.

  • From Rollin on The River. The First Edition's variety show.

  • CANADA ROCKS best era between 1970 to 1976

  • good tune, love the classics

  • this was one kicky little band i wonder why they only had two hits ......

  • they did a few other good ones too

  • makes me feel like danceing......come fly with me : )

  • Absolutely Canadian !!!!!

  • Another cool Canadian band!

  • Needs MORE COWBELL!!!!!!!!!

  • The guy at 1:20 gives me the creeps!!

  • Brian Rading, self proclaimed uncle of mine.

I am the son of Michael belanger, (the original drummer in this video)

    they're all still Kickin'!

  • Reminds me of a 'Trogladyte'

  • a hermit?

  • Not quite, a missing link between the Neanderthals and modern homo -sapiens! (LOL)

  • it didn't look to me as though they were lip-synching it. great to see tham really singing it and really playing their instruments in a day when lip-synching to a recorded song was routinely done!!

  • what a great track - love how the bass comes in

  • Five Man Electrical Band Is Absolutly Right

  • i wonder if they were pot smokers.

  • hey thats where some of the best songs ever wrote came from- pot smokers!lol

  • because pot makes you better and feel better

  • thats what wrote half of these songs my friend, not to mention all of that extasy n lsd :) WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH

  • I got to see this great band play at a dance in the 70's in Hoquiam Washington, I liked them then and still like them now.

  • I see Les often...he's from my hometown Ottawa, Ont.

  • Ask him if he remembers playing in Hoquiam Washington.

  • i work on Brian Rading's caddy.

  • Great Band with all kinds of great music both as The 5 Man electrical Band and as the Staccatos. They still sound good today but are not the same without Brian and especially my hero,Rick B.

  • Fantastic! More Cow Bell!!!

  • I know Les Emmerson, I'm his biggest fan, we are tight ^_^

  • This is a great song for the bass guitar - one of the best I've heard. Not that the playing is highly technical as, say, something previously delivered by the late John Entwistle of The Who, but its driving force, volume, and pounding groove are fantastic!

  • What a GREAT live version! The Five Man ElectricalBand had two Top 40 hits in 1971: "Signs" (which peaked at #5) and "Absolutely Right" (which speaked at #26). I know "Signs" sold better, but for my money, "Absolutely Right" is a far better song and record. To hear the studio-recorded 45 RPM version, look elsewhere on YouTube.

  • Recognized and UnderRated. and Canadian.

  • Excellent! The vocal harmony on the studio version was arguably the greatest of that era.

  • the drummer lives like 8 doors down from me.

  • which drummer, steve or mike? mike's my pa ;)

  • im not sure, but he has a dark red van and lives on iles lol.

  • wow... i've never heard about this band before, but this is REALLY great...

  • Please try to schedule a date in SC - even my 15 month old daughter loves your music!

  • Great song...underrated band

  • This song blows my mind everytime I hear it,although around here you can only hear it on the oldies channel broadcast on am radio so it's been awhile since I've heard it with this much clarity. Thanks for posting this very rare video.

  • This is the 1st. time I've ever seen how they look! I remember 71-72' when all this came out, I was only in my early teens at the time, but this was definately on the soundtrack!!

  • This rocks!! Great song

  • This is MUCH better than "Signs." It just rocks a lot more.

    DJ Johnny

  • now thats when freaks were freaks

  • a two hit wonder

  • Sorry buddy, at least four hits, "Signs" "Absolutely Right", "Moneyback Guarantee" and "I'm A Stranger Here". Great band, loved to spin their records...

  • I like Sunrise Sunset which is not on CD.

  • absolutly great

  • While not as good as the studio-recorded single version, this isn't bad. "Absolutely Right" was the FMEB's second US hit, reaching #26 in the fall of 1971. Frankly, I like it a whole lot more than "Signs," which reached #5 five months earlier. None of their singles after this reached the US Top 40.

  • my boyfriends drum teacher is the drummer from this band

  • Liar!

  • why just because it isn't yours you have to fucking say its fake because of what you think? fuck you i bet he is

  • The NEW drummer is Steve Hollingsworth...and yes he is a drum teacher. He gigs with them today.....

  • Steve Hollingworth IS a drum teacher...mash..ain't a liar bud!@!!

  • Thats impossible fagg

  • why just because it isn't yours you have to fucking say its fake because of what you think? fuck you i bet he is

  • Music vids on youtube elicite variations on the same theme. Again and again.

If you are going to bullshit people be creative so that at least your BS entertains. Foolish bullshit insults the reader and I don't like being insulted:

Take a long hard one, you idiot.

  • he by lucky as hell O_O

  • I always loved this song. I saw them back up Rare Earth in 71 and they were soooo loud!

  • Agreed!

I saw Rare Earth as well in their prime - my God - could they rock as well!

  • Great band very underrated IMO

  • they were just in arnprior (small town bout 60km from ottawa) they played friday night at the fair!

  • 5 Man is STILL awesome. I saw them perform a few years ago in my hometown. They were billed as "The Hitmen" but it was most of the former members. Now they're touring some small town fairs as a reformed 5 Man, with the Cooper Brothers backing. Performing in Arnprior, on August 10th.

  • I demand more cowbell!

  • Dang - LOVED this song - the music of the 70s will NEVER be duplicated!

    Mark

  • Great follow up song after "signs".

  • Does anyone know that song they did about the kid that turns into the werewolf...? God what a great song, haven't heard it in SO LONG! What's that one called??

  • There was a single called "Werewolf" released in 1974, while Les was on a break from the band.

  • wonderful upload!

  • Can somone put up "Signs?"

  • i opened for these guys at a 9/11 Red Cross benefit in 2001. we obviously had to not do our cover of "Signs"! ;-)

  • Are these guys still around? About time if they DID!!!!

  • yep they're out doing the nostalgia circuit now. i think their manager (Les' wife) said they play about 150 dates a year

  • they play many less dates than that. They play around 10 a year and I know this because I know Les and his family

  • yeah that's quite possible these days. I know Les was hooking back up with the Cooper Brothers recently so that may have changed things a bit. Then again when you're a band like Five Man that can demand a decent rider and gate receipt you don't have to play as much as when you're first starting out. That figure of 150 dates was going back to 2001 so things have changed in 7 years.

  • Well, this goes to show that Brian Rading was a damn fine bass player. Listen the bass line on this song, especially the recorded version. Phenomenal. Les Emmerson is great too. Wish all their stuff was available on CD.

  • Yep. I was just thinking the same thing. Good to see someone else notice.

  • I was at a Five Man Electrical Band show a few years ago in a small town (Paris Ontario). It was a great show. I have not seen this video before. Les Emerson and Brian Rading kick ass. Rock on!

  • awesome....have not heard in 30 years
