  • The runner, of course feels guilt, it's human to, but he pretty much had no choice, he's going full speed, head down, and by the time he gets his head up, with the catcher being SO FAR out in front of the plate, there must've been no reaction time, if he went around him he may have been called out, even though I believe he would have gotten the call, the catcher clearly would been obstructing the base runner...

  • actually you should learn your rules. a defensive player has no right to be in the base path without the ball, (including making an attempt to catch the ball.) by rule even if the runner dodged him he should still be called safe on the basis of obstruction.

  • actually the runner should be out because the catcher was attempting to make a play. those of you saying its the catchers fault, learn the rules, its the runners fault

  • I have to give this one to the runner. Catcher never had the ball and was blocking the plate. He should have been in front of the plate waiting for the relay. Catcher was obstructing, it was his fault. I hate collisions, I swipe tag when its an option. But if you don't have the ball, get out of the base path.

  • saaaaaaaaaaaaafe!

  • 2:30 he calls him Mike Ramsey

  • Get the fuck outta the way dumbass

  • you are all fucking retards who think that this is the runners fault. The catcher blocked the basepath thus being an obstruction by the catcher

  • THATSB HOW YOU DO IT BOYS!

  • the guy shouting around 1:00 did the same thing the morning b4. i watched the game that got them in2 this game. lol

  • I'm a catcher who has been trucked multiple times before, and as bad as such injuries are, that is just the way the game is and should be played....tough play

  • @goalstopper581 You would be trucked fewer times if you knew the rules. RULE BOOK 7.06(b) NOTE: The catcher, WITHOUT THE BALL IN HIS POSESSION, has no right to block the pathway of the runner attempting to score. The base line belongs to the runner and the catcher should be there only when he is fielding a ball or when he already has the ball in his hand.

  • Look at 1:22

You can see Ramsey step over the line to truck Chris.

    It was obviously intentional.

Schaeffer NEVER even touched the ball

Its all fun and games until someone gets hurt!!!

    Im on Coach Avent's side.

  • @greatbigdonut Since he never touched the ball, he had no right to be in the baseline. Rule 7.06(b) NOTE: The catcher, WITHOUT THE BALL IN HIS POSESSION, has no right to block the pathway of the runner attempting to score. The base line belongs to the runner and the catcher should be there only when he is fielding a ball or when he already has the ball in his hand.

  • It was a terrible outcome for 2 players that were playing hard. But until baseball makes the plate a auto slide place these things will happen. I have 2 sons that catch and I am on pins and needles when there is a play at the plate.

I am glad to see the State player is ok and doing well.

  • @64armt First of all, teach them that they can't be in the baseline without the ball. That's where this guy was. He was blocking the baseline. The runner has the right to it, until the fielder has the ball in his hands...OR if the fielder is making an initial play on a batted ball in the baseline. Simple as all that.

  • If anyone wants to KNOW the rule instead of all the when I played and all the other misconceptions about running bases please see the following:

    PG102 /RULE 8 / BASE RUNNING /Collision Rule section 7

The catcher could have been called for interference for blocking the plate without the ball but that would be very picky for the rule. Ramsey could have been called for interference for not allowing the fielder to go to the ball. Again very picky.

  • @64armt Wrong. Read 7.06(b) NOTE: The catcher, WITHOUT THE BALL IN HIS POSESSION, has no right to block the pathway of the runner attempting to score. The base line belongs to the runner and the catcher should be there only when he is *fielding a ball or when he already has the ball in his hand. * 'fielding a ball' means a batted ball.

  • No foul here. Just unfortunate. Coach Avent has a right to be pissed though, as expected from anyone who was there. Although he is ultimately incorrect and the ump's ruling was fair. A lot of teams would have cleared their benches. I'm glad State did not. However, anyone who thinks its funny when someone gets hurt needs some serious mental help though... Go Pack

  • state baseball players are douche bags anyway

  • James needs to be a football player.

  • @FSUnoles071

He was a Left Outside Line Backer

  • his girlfriend looks like a slut anyways

  • @flst016

Stfu you probably don't even have a gf you waste of human existence. She isn't a slut and she plays for NC State's softball team. So again stfu and feel free to die if you're gonna keep wasting your time talking shit about people you don't even know. Fuck you

  • @HawaiianIce3 lol stfu. shes a slut, get over it

  • all u idiots saying that was cheap ect.....the runner ALWAYS HAS PRIORITY OF THE BASEPATH.....the catcher was right in the middle of the basepath.....if the runner would have ran around him, then hes automatically out for leaving the basepath. its a completely clean and legal play. its a sport....shit happens.

  • BOOM!!!

    Go Noles

  • @Bradinhollysprings, I doubt you have ever played any sport if you're saying the catcher shouldn't have been there! I'm sure you're are speaking of your own pathetic living situation, and you're just a little punk that hides behind his computer! How about go play some tee ball loser

  • From the NCAA rule book—If the fielder blocks the path of the base runner to the base (plate), the runner may make contact, slide into, or collide with a fielder as long as the runner is making a legitimate attempt to reach the base or plate.

  • The NC State coach is wrong to argue the call. The catcher should have never been in the baseline. He could have taken a couple of steps up to catch the ball.

That is typical for someone from NC State though. People from NC State are stupid trailer trash rednecks that are too dumb for their own good.

  • @bradinhollysprings, The catcher had to go up to catch the ball. As a high school catcher i know the call is right, but i agree with packfan252258 you should play some ball.

  • Comment removed

  • @bradinhollysprings Too bad you could never get into NC State. Holly Springs d-bag calling someone else a redneck? LOL

  • Unfortunate play, but a clean one all the same. An off-target throw caused Schaeffer to step further down the baseline and directly in Ramsey's path. If the throw had been where it needed to be, just in front of the plate, Ramsey probably would have slid. NCSU's coach should apologize to Ramsey for, among other things, not knowing what the hell he's talking about.

  • James Ramsey= No class, piece of shit. He could have easily avoided that hit if he wanted to.

  • @Nicbsbll2 the catcher was in the baseline...

  • DAAAAAAAAMN!!!!!! He's going to feel that tomorrow!

  • its part of the game. shit happens.

  • Good, clean baseball play. Sorry the guy got hurt, but if he is playing catcher in college, he knows that guy is coming full bore and it is his choice to put himself in that baseline. Part of the game, but a shame he got wiped out.

  • dbland, your an idiot, learn the game before you pass judegement. FSU kid did exactly what he was supposed to, this is the fault of the NC State player. You dont look down to check and see where he is in the baseline. He is blocking access to home so you truck him. nhrosinski, grow the f up if you think FSU is the only school whos athletes have cheated on tests.

  • I'm curious to know why Ramsey stepped to his left to initiate contact with Schaeffer instead of taking the free path around him to the right. One step to the right would've been all he needed to clear Schaeffer.

  • @curlyfry007 You are allowed to run outside the baseline when rounding bases, but if you purposely run outside of them, other than for that reason, you are called out. Or at least that was the rule when I played.

  • @sorrian If Ramsey had taken an exaggerated path around Schaeffer, in the order of 2-3 steps to the right, that would be one thing. But all Ramsey needed to do to avoid him was take, at most, one step to the right. Instead, he stepped in toward Schaeffer. Puzzling.

  • @curlyfry007 It's not puzzling, if he had done it he would be out. Ramsey did exactly what he is supposed to do. Schaeffer(sp?) pretty much did what he was supposed to do. He could have modified his position and still made the tag while avoiding the collision, but that's not something you think about so easily in the heat of battle, so to speak.

  • this was a clean baseball play with unintended results. No rules were broken. When a catcher stands in the baseline like that he can get hit. Its part of the game. The NCST coach was the only one in the wrong here for being a classless jerk. Notice how he runs out to argue with the ump instead of rushing to his players aid...what a model coach.

  • Hey Coach Avent, way to protest the call instead of checking on your injured player.

  • @PiratePride01

Go cheat on some more tests

  • @njrosinski Um, what? Wow, you really got me there.

  • The NCSU player was inside the line, and the FSU guy ran on the outside until he was three or four steps away. At that point, he purposely changed his path to square himself up to hit the State guy. You guys can justify it all you want, but it was a punk move by Ramsey.

  • @dblandpc You're obviously not a base runner or you wouldn't have said anything so ignorant as that. Shut up moron.

  • Next time, don't stand on the tracks when the train's coming through

  • First of all, I hope no one takes anything I am about to say as disrespect to Chris. I'm very glad he's ok.

As you can tell from my UN, I am biased, but I do love NCSU, my wife's cousin is a Prof there and we spend a few nights with them in Cary every year.

The NCSU coach was being a moron after the game, complaining about the refs. Clearly it was the catcher in the wrong. If you watch the angle from behind the 3rd base line, the catcher stepped into the runner too... That coach needs a pill

  • Catcher didn't even have the ball, that is interference. Sorry you can't stand in the lane without the ball, instead of blaming the runner, blame the coaching staff for poor coaching. Glad to hear Schaeffer is alright, tough kid.

  • Its one of those plays that it is legal but when it happens to your team then you dont want to hear it.

  • I hate how Hogwood says "No one feels worse than Ramsey." I bet Schaeffer felt a helluva lot worse than Ramsey. I'm just glad Chris is OK.

  • where's part 2 and 3?

  • @healthguyfsu They're being uploaded as we type. They both should be up in a couple of hours.

  • Unfortunate situation for the catcher -- glad to hear that he is going to be ok.

Nothing dirty about it, just two college kids trying to make a play during the conference championship game. .

  • stay out of the path if you dont want to get hit.
