my personal left hand work out is a simple 4/4 kick on 1 and snare on 2 8th notes on hi hat with the left hand matching every 8th note but ghosting it.
@GrooveDrummin except to play Rock'n Roll the left hand is just as prominant as the hi-hat and also the bass drum pattern is not just a simple 1 or even 1&3. It's 1& then &3& a lot of times but changes a lot. I like the count at the beginning. I use to love to stump other musicians like bass players and guitarists by seeing if they could come in on time with the record but they were always slightly off. Then I would play it 3 times in a row coming in exactly on time. Once they new the count....
@jimihendrixtribute Read my comment again. I said it's never just 1 & 3 (the way Bonham played it); it's improvised. That being said it's still a simple straight ahead song to play. Improvising 8th notes on a bass drum is a simple task for any decent drummer. It's the feel and groove that Bonham gave it that's the delight.
Very nice. You've got some great videos there. I'm trying to learn all I can and you have definetly helped. I'm not a professional drummer but I would love it if you would critique my vid clips here on youtube. Just type in Drummer Richard Gray. Any suggestions would be appreciated (my clips are very short). The ones labeled "take 1" & "take 2" I think are better than the audition clip I did. Thanks.
It's basically single strokes between right foot and left hand with accents on 2 and 4 while the right hand keeps time in quarter notes. Hope this helps.
wow your drums are amazing, i love larger size drums! and you play very well!, by the way, do u think you can tell me what kind of cymbals you have and the sizes?

@spercoco it's never a simple 1&3.. It's eighth notes that are scattered around, being picked up on the downbeats and upbeats

Learn some rudiments and practice them everyday for at least 0.5 - 1hour.
